We have used Pontins at Brean & Camber sands and always found the accomodation & facilities clean & acceptable to be honest. Not luxury but there again your not paying luxury prices.
In most places you find people who have enjoyed and people who hated it.
If the chalet was dirty i would asked to be moved or for someone to come clean it at least.
I think like most things in life you get what you pay for.0 -
We have just returned from the freebie holiday at Pontins Camber Sands.
Luckily, we had very nice weather most days and had a lovely afternoon on the beach, in the sunshine, on Tuesday.
Our room was a budget one, upstairs, in one of the chalets just down the road from the onsite shop and the entrance gate.
The walls had been recovered and freshly painted, as were the ceilings. There were new light fittings, new cupboards in the kitchen, cooker and fridge with a small icebox were fine. The fridge door was a bit rusted, but that's from the sea air and can't really be helped. There were new work surfaces as well. The bathroom and bedroom doors were new and freshly painted.
The bed linen was spotless, carpets weren't too bad and the tv was perfectly tuned in. No remote control though.
The grill pan was missing from the cooker and the fire alarm was half hanging off. We reported this to reception, went and had one drink in the Queen Vic and by the time we got back to our room, there was a grill pan in the kitchen and the smoke alarm had been sorted.
The floors in the kitchen and bathroom could have been cleaner, but Cillit Bang and some anti-bacterial wipes sorted it quickly. We spent £2 on the electric and only turned the water heater on for 10 minutes at a time and had masses of hot water.
My OH and I used the free room as a base and spent each day out from about 10am until 6pm.
There was a bit of noise from kids playing on the lawn in the middle of the chalets and from the die hards returning at 1am, but we had no trouble near our room at all. In fact, the one next to us was empty.
We had a club apartment at Brean Sands last month, which was fine too, but the budget one is better designed and a bit roomier we thought.
We paid half price for the club one at Brean and nothing for the budget one at Camber, but would definately go for the Camber one.
Only draw back was that the curtains were knackered and need to be replaced. I refused to sleep with my face near them and just put my pillows up the opposite end of the bed and swopped the duvet around.
I know a lot of people have complained but it must be the luck of the draw and touch wood, we have been very lucky.
I made our food or we ate out but I am a sucker for the grab machines.
Got a soft cuddly Basil Brush at Brean and a pink, soft, cuddly monkey at Camber this morning.
Would I go back? To Camber definately. We have been there twice now and both times, truly did not have much to complain about. The staff were all lovely and helpful.
Will try for a £9.50 Sun holiday starting tomorrow.

Our only complaint? The humungous seagulls who tend to sit AND sh*t on the roof of your car and the very raucous noise they make from about 4.30am!

We are jsut back from Prestatyn Pontins from a £60 holiday. We stayed in the club accomadation. The bathroom was really... really smelly. It stunk of mold and mildew. The cause was the shower curtain. The chalet hadnt been cleaned that well as we found a few half eaten polo mints around the place. The chalet was right by the go karts and the pool. The camp was quiet at night except for the resident seagulls, which one night turned up in there 100's.
The entertainment was ok... except we went to see the Postman Pat show and it turned out to be the bluecoats singing queen songs... badly... including the song "Only the good die young", I thought that was great for a kids show....
The kids had a great time and at the end of the day thats why we went.
Will be going again, but only on a very cheap holiday.Sealed Pot Challenge - No 1520Want to be debt clear by June 2012:j0 -
I was at Brean a few weeks ago and had a very clean and hygenic room. and everything else was good too,
THey say you get what you pay for, we got what we paid for and more, kids had wonderful time and it cost me nothing.0 -

Been the last 2 years to Hemsby and going again this year, first one was free holiday in the basic chalet is was fine nice and clean, last year we had Club and paid £60 for a week again it was nice and clean without problems, the chalets are basic and i think they are good value at £60 for a week, we spend most time out on days out anyway and just use it as a base, the kids love the entertainment at night and the blue coats are always friendly, maybe we have been lucky but i recommend it to anybody, but i wouldn't recommend paying in the hundreds for a holiday as you could get better accommodation elsewhere0
