? As in I can't arrange insurance before we buy the car, as we don't know which car we will purchase. Just wondering how I can insure myself and my car when driving home from the dealers yard?

I will not drive any car without insurance (just incase anyone on here suggest I might do such a thing!)

Thanks

Surely you have some idea of make and model of car you are interested in?
And do you currently have a car and insurance.

  • You decide on the car you want, you then contact your insurer on the phone, get it insured, and purchase the car. All within the space of an hour or two.

No, I wish it was that easy!

Yes, we have ideas of makes and models that we will view, we are visiting car yards this weekend with a view to purchase a car - but don't know which one we will buy obviously yet!

We don't currently have a car & thus no insurance.

More Than do an emergency 24 hour cover. Take the phone number off the web site and call them when you've decided on the car.

Surely you can put down a desposit on the car, sort the insurance out and collect it the next day?

No, we will need to do the deal and drive away.

Pew Pew Pew Lasers - I won't do a phone quote, I will use the internet to find most economical quote.

I will look into the Morethan insurance 24 hour cover, thanks Belnahua for the brilliant advice

Actually, thinking about it, most decent motor traders will be able to arrange a free 7 day cover for you so you can drive the car away and sort out permanent insurance cover later. Do the places you are considering not offer this?

Ok, one way would be to take someone with you who has car insurance, they would contact their insurance comp and get cover to extend to the car they were driving for you, not 100% sure they will do this as they would not be buying that car.
Other way would be to price insurance for the type of car you want, and arrange with the cheapest company, explain the situation, and when you buy the car you should be able to phone them up and start cover immediately

Thanks Tradetime, unfort my partner who is buying the car with me doesn't have a licence and there is no-one available to come with us this weekend.

The issue is, is that although we have about 10 makes & models in mind (we have done a bit of resarch on the companies we are going to visit) we don't know what cars will be available on the day and therefore, can't set any cover up.

I'm going to research these companies to see if they have drive away cover as suggested by razkazz and also look into More than.
