I've subscribed to this thread before but wondered if anybody could give me some advice. We're thinking of going to Egypt next summer for a fortnight, myself, OH, son who will be 11 and daughters aged 9 and 3. I'm not sure whether or not to book a package through a tour operator or organise my own through Travel Republic or On the Beach.com. Any advice/ information on decent hotels etc and whether to book through an operator or independently would be much appreciated. Also information re resorts etc. We are currently thinking of going for an All Inclusive package but don't mind eating out either.

    Thank you.
loobylou2.Proud to be dealing with my debts and aiming to sort out the mess in 2013!!!!

Try Chrousso Village hotel and apartments in Halkidiki. Went there 2 years ago. Its all inclusive. Two adults and three children.
Also try Blue Bay Escape. St Spyridon. Corfu. Both are brilliant.

Both were booked with First Choice.
    Hope this helps.
we are going there in sept to my moms wedding, there are 7 in my family alone never mind the others:eek:

  • Try calling some of the agents who advertise on TELETEXT. They will do all the work for you and search according to your personal requirements.

They'll call back with various options, which I suggest you research on some of the holiday review web sites before booking.

I've booked a couple of excellent and well prices holidays for my me, my wife and our three kids.

Given the fact that I travel from Scotland, have far more limited choice of location and increased fares, those of you further south, particularly travelling from London airports should get plenty of options.
  • I have 3 children aged 10, 8 and 5. We have been camping in previous years which has been great but this year have decided not to go away during the summer but go away for Christmas instead. The UK is proving to be a complete nightmare when it comes to accommodating 5 people in a hotel room.

I have no wish to sleep separately from any member of my family (as inevitably happens - me in one room with 2 children and my husband in the other with 1 child). This is not a family holiday!!!

The cost of staying anywhere at Christmas is expensive but even more so when you have to have 2 rooms.

There are more and more of us with more than 2 children, why hasn't anybody in the travel industry noticed this!

what about apartment or villa instead of hotel room ?
  • Hi, just thought I'd let you know about our holiday. After 2 fairly stressful 'package' hotel type holidays, I found the lack of choice for familys of 5 quite depressing. I finally had enough and decided to do it all ourselves, which I found easy and much cheaper. We have just got back from an amazing private villa in Cyprus. We found the property on 'Owners Direct' website. We arranged the flights through Thomas Cook and flew from Cardiff in the half term week. We pre-arranged transfers with 'Transfers 4 U' because I didnt fancy hiring a car. It all went really smoothly, the villa was amazing, plenty of space, 5 bedrooms, infinity pool and a really cool bedroom with windows underneath the pool which the kids loved. Right on the beach too. There was enough space for some friends to come with us, which made it even better value. I certainly wouldn't bother going back to the package route now, far better value and far more fabulous! Was so pleased to sail pass all the queues of people being herded like sheep to their hotel compartments, while off we went in our minibus to our luxury villa. Independant travel rocks! Kids had a ball.

We are also a family of 5 (13, 11 & 7). For the past few years we have either gone to our own 2 bed apt in Bulgaria or have booked independantly either through:

    ownersdirect.co.uk
    or
    holidaylettings.com

    would recommend both.
  • HI, we are a family of five with children aged 15,12 and 6. Inprevious years we have booked a accomodation with travel republic and med hotels for self catering don miquel appartments in puerto pollensa in mayorca depending on whose quote was cheapest! I then booked flights seperately and also private car hire from the airport for the holiday. Apart from food it cost about £2800 and i found appartments clean and was convenient for beach and you can use facilities of Hotel opposite and join in with the entetainment. Great Restauants nearby which were reasonably priced especially on corner opposite the beach. You save about £1500 on booking with companies although i recommend using credit cards so you have some protection if any companies go bust!
Not going back again as our eldest is bored with just beach holidays ad we are trying to find a holiday to suit us all with Beach and some Culture! any ideas would be great!!!

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. We have a holiday booked mid-July - taken the 2 youngest out of school for a week - with French Freedom Holidays. Got in on their special offer of 7 nights, 4 star site, £499! Have paid the supplement to use Brittany Ferries as it saves the long, long (and mostly dull) drive down from Calais, plus fuel and 1 overnight stop.

The early offer is now closed, but they may be worth a try for late deals. I have not used them before, but the mobile homes look new. You don't get as many goodies in the travel pack as with Keycamp/Eurocamp (the same company, incidentally), but they're waaaay cheaper! With report back after the holiday. In my experience (I worked for one of these companies for nearly 10 years at a fairly senior level), there isn't a massive amount to choose between them. They are frequently cheaper then booking direct with the site and a separate ferry, especially off-season where the prices are amazingly low.

Then booked 3 nights Paris with Cities Direct of Cheltenham - very good deal, hotel near Eiffel Tower.
  • I am family of 5 & penalized by the offers for family of 4. it is not fare and the government should intervene. im planing on expanding my family but circumstances make it difficult.

totally agree that you are penalised for being a family of 5. For years I just booked everything seperately.
