What are you sleeping on? We have an inflated airbed with a flat airbed underneath it, then a fleecy blanket under a sheet, us (me in full length PJ's), with our duvet to go on top of us!! I am cold most of the time generally but this seems to work (plus my hat in bed of course!!)
YES I do get the mick taken out of me for being cold all the time but that's just the way it is! Think I may have reptile blood in me, need to soak up the sun to recharge.....

ive definitely got reptile blood. We are sleepin on a double airbed in a double sleeping bag (although may invest in a decent Gelert one rather than 1970's chic) with roll mats beneath the airbed, and a blanket on top.

I am planning an extended cycle touring trip, lasting a couple of months during the summer, finish at uni next year so taking advantage while I can

    Wales
    Ireland
    France
    Spain
    France
    Italy
    France
    England

Started looking at prices of UK campsites and im a bit shocked tbh, you can get a decent B&B for just a little more than some of the rates i have seen. I cant seem to find any sites offering decent prices for a single person with a small tent. A few days in UK campsites will cost more than a couple of weeks in municipal sites in France (even with the exchange rate), think I will give the UK a miss and head straight to Ireland!

Try joining the Caravanning and camping club, we were astonished at the prices of their certified sites, a lot cheaper than most commercial sites. We camped on the Gower last BH for £5.00 a night, friends paid £26.00 a night just a mile or so down the road. Admittedly it didn't have loos or showers but made up for that with superb views all round!! Check out their website first, it's got a site finder and an index for prices.

If there were no loos or showers, where did you go to the toilet? Do you have a porta potty?

We have recently bought a folding camper.

It is much more comfortable than a tent and it is easier to get out of bed especially if your an o.a.p. (Not really old):j

People are more friendly when your are camping, my grandaughter made lots of friends on our weekend over the Bank Holiday.

I've actually just cancelled my membership to the C&C Club as I didn't feel I got the value from it I expected. In the past 9 months I have stayed at a privately owned site costing £20 in Derbyshire incl electric hookup, another in Yorkshire costing £6 incl elect hookup (also with great free hot showers, free hair dryer etc), a National Trust site costing £9 a night, also with fabulous free showers, an electric point in the shower block for hairdryers, phone charging etc and the only CCC one I stayed in was a CS (small site with minimal facilities though this one had a loo and shower on a meter so not free) which cost £10 a night incl hookup. I tried to get on another larger CCC site but it was full as they take non-members also so no great advantage being a member.

If you want to join in rallies etc then join the clubs, but personally I don't feel it's worth it for prices of sites. Some private ones, or those run by other organisations such as National Trust can be equally cheap for the services provided. The UK Campsite website already mentioned is an excellent source of info, reviews etc.

Going back packer camping later this month and wanted a collapsible bowl for washing up etc. Thought they were pricey at around £10-£15. Poundland does a tall one which falls over at every opportunity. So I bought the poundland water carrier and cut the around the top leaving an open square bowl which is easily collapsible and light and only cost £1.

We camp frequently on the motorbikes and I'm increasingly cross with how expensive camping is becoming. Nowadays sites want a minimum of 3 nights' booking over the bank holiday weekend, charge for pitch and per person...the list goes on!

Last year this place http://www.burnbake.com/ wanted just shy of £100 for the May bank holiday weekend:eek: Rubbish cold showers that you had to pay for, facilities not cleaned and the site was far busier than it could cope with. Also, on one tour we visited at a Camping and Caravanning Club site - it was off season and mid week, they wanted £48 for two nights as we were non-members....

Anyway, if you are civil servants (pretty much even the most tenous link to public work counts), check out the CSMA (Civil Service Motoring Asssociation). They have a selection of holiday cottage they let to members as well as a campsite. You can also get cheap car insurance and breakdown cover.

    My camping essentials:
    1) Good headtorch
    2) Can opener
    3) A tot of something to keep you warm at night:D
    4) Bedsocks and hat!
