Ofcom will sort them out. Post over on http://www.thinkbroadband.com as well, there might be an orange rep over there who'll not like the bad publicity and get them to stop messing you about.

Are you on Orange LLU (even if they switched you without your knowledge)? I know there was at one time a problem with moving between LLU providers like I'm guessing you're trying to do.

    Also, there's http://www.orangeproblems.co.uk - a relevant thread here.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

Your current supplier is the one who'll issue the code. Therefore the one who you need to chase if its not correct.

    Thanks All,
I will try the links suggested.Ofcom have suggested it should be my new provider(Sky) taking up the case with Orange. To date they have been less than helpful. Is it only me having MAC code problems???

Sky have nothing to do with it, Orange should be providing a proper MAC and if they are not then OFCOM should be talking to them and not suggesting you talk to Sky.
  • I have just cancelled my account with pipex…for a number of reasons (mainly cost/poor customer service ). After I did this I asked for my MAC code so I can sign up with o2 more easily. The woman told me that because I had requested a ‘cancellation’ and not a ‘MAC code’ initially that they didn’t have to give me one.

She said that they did not have to provide me with one and that because she had just cancelled my account this deleted my MAC code!! Furious – another example of where Pipex have terrible customer service.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

As far as I know they are correct, you have to ask for a MAC before cancelling, once the cancellation is processed you cannot then ask for a MAC code. In this case it's not Pipex's fault (apart from the obvious issues you had with them that caused you to cancel)/.

Aggghh, it's a MAC not a MAC code.
    Migration Access Code CODE

    PIN Number
    Personal Identification number number

Sorry this is my pet hate when someone asks me to enter my PIN number!

As said get on to OFCOM and ISPA, Orange have to provide it within 5 workings days by UK law. In fact just tell Orange your going to get on to OFCOM as they are "high jacking" the line, you'll find they give you it in no time.

You can request you MAC at anytime, it doesn't mean your terminating your account. Requesting it prior to terminating means you can quickly switch with little or no downtime.

Check here for lots of problems people have with Orange and obtaining their Broadband MAC

Trouble is that its so easy to forget and just put the code bit on the end as most people don't realise what it stands for in the first place.
