Help...Possible scam from Eon?

we've had a letter this morning saying they have credited our account with £18.30

I rang the number on the letter and i keep getting a beep tone every now and again. It won't let me end the call, even taking the batteries out of the phone won't cancel it. I tried to ring our home number from the mobile and its just ringing out

The phone comes up with 'searching' and when i press the answer button the phone is saying 'impossible'

Does anyone know what the hell is going on?

Ps i don't think this has come directly from Eon

Did it have your account number on it and does it say why they have credited your account with this money?

What's the number that you called? Also does the letter look genuine to you i.e. is the Eon logo on it, is your account number on there etc

If your home number is ringing, unless you have two lines then the call has terminated (otherwise you would have got an engaged tone instead of it ringing out). I would say it is a problem with the handset - perhaps its low on battery or disconnected?

Try plugging a normal phone in instead of the cordless.

If you want someone to check the number, you need to post it.

If you are still worried you can try ringing BT (or your generic call provider) and seeing if they can check if the call has terminated or if there is a line fault.

    Hi

I too recieved notification from E On that they were crediting me just over 13 quid. Phoned today and they explained that it was for a discount that they failed to apply to my final bill when I left.Cheque on way, seems genuine to me.

We had the same letter. About £18. I think it's pretty genuine.
