I've been putting off touching up the paintwork for about 3 months and it took so little time once I'd bothered to get the paint out of the garage. Shame on me. Problem is there's no tiled splashback on the counter that I prep food and it gets manky quickly. I've had a bit of a reshuffle, moving the BM and kettle kind of thing, I'll see if it flows...

morning everyone, especially returnees and newbies.

tried to get on the computer earlier but ds1 wanted to go on, and as he hits the keyboard until i let him, then it is easier to just let him. On the bright side it meant i could start flying.

we are having a bit of a reactive day here, dealing with things that crop up.

So far, we woke up to an exploded nappy from ds 1, and had all the bedding/pjs to deal with.

    DH has before work:
    • stripped cot, washed bedding, Pjs and pillow that was covered in gel
    • hung out a load of his work t-shirts that didn't quite dry yesterday
    • made pack up
    • fed fat fred
    I have:
    • made the morning go-go juice, now on the 3rd cup
    • fed ds2
    • made breakie for me and ds1
    • bathroom - s and s the sink including woodwork at side of sink that had mucky splashes on, put bleach down the loo
    • kitchen - washed cat bowls and feeding mat, cleaned outside of the bin that was minging, cleaned the window in the back door (inside only), put away last night's washing up, s and s the sink and draining board
    • dining room - picked up cheerios from the floor, wiped up some mucky marks on the floor, cleaned the patio doors (inside only as the handprints all over the bottom half have finally annoyed me to doing it).
I don't really know what i want to achieve today, so i will set a few smaller targets i think, and then see what else i can manage.
    1) list 5 books on amazon (i'll then have 17 things on there - sold 2 in past 2 weeks)
    2) meal plan for the week
    3) put recycling outside
    4) half an hour sorting in the spare room - put maternity clothes i washed yesterday in box for loft, do a bit more ironing/putting away
    5) clean the outside of the kitchen door window.
    6) file paperwork sorted on saturday
    7) find out ds2s birth certificate to open his bank account tomorrow
    8) chicken fajhitas for dinner :D

I think i need to make a list of longer term jobs that i keep putting off like nicki as i can think of a few things that need mending/doing that i have known about for ages but can't be bothered basically.

Also, i am starting to diet today - not a drastic one as i don't want my milk to dry up, but i have put back on 4 Ibs in recent weeks after having Sam, so i want to tone up a bit and not let my weight creep back up. I.e. less crappy snacks during the day because i am bored or because ds1 is napping, and trying to get out and about a bit more pushing the buggy for exercise. If i tell you lot i will feel more accountable. ;)

i'll join in the 10:30 - 11 challenge. I am bribing myself, the more i get done today the less i need to do tomorrow.

mudbath best wishes to you and dd for exams today

solway know what you mean about putting stuff off then realising it doesn't take long. - that's why i say just do it now! motivates me quite often. Actually, i bet it took you longer to clean the brushes than the actual painting ;)

How do others with small children and jobs manage ?
The kids are now DS 5 (at school full time, DD1 3 1/2 - at preschool Tues-Fri mornings, and DD2 9 months and with me at home except when I work. She is rolling everywhere tyring to eat Polly Pocket and Meccano aarrghhhh).

Jill my 2 littlies are 5 and 3 and I jobshare. I work every other week and so I usually end up doing housework properly every other week :D As I'm working this week I'll put in one or two loads of washing each day, make the dinner and lunches, empty/refill the DW and perhaps put the hoover around. Not much else really - occasionally I'll do level one of Pigpen's list.
I've found that on the weeks that I'm off I limit the housework to certain times so I usually do what is necessary between 9-10.30 and then I have time to play with ds or go out shopping etc.
I was trying to do everything all the time until recently then realised that I was missing the children growing up. When ds starts school in September I've been asked if I'm going back to work full-time and I've taken to replying "no, I haven't cleaned the house properly for six years since dd was born so I guess I'll do that";)

Dead right, Michelle, it took longer to go down the garden and wrestle with the 3 rusty padlocks on the garage than the actual painting! I've brought up all the colours so I can do the other rooms as as I go. I've got a list of all those sorts of jobs I keep putting off too like Nicki, I WILL get them done these three days off!
