AOL - £6.99 (did I hear irish accent right)

Options
Just phoned up AOL to update billing info (can't do it online as don't use Aol software).

Whilst there I asked if my speed was capped as only getting download speeds of less than 0.5 mb. I had previously asked online tech support who said their might be a fault on line and said I needed to phone to get it investigated. I phoned and they said I needed to record speeds several days and then phone. I never got round to phoning back - went on hols etc.

Anyway the girl I spoke to this evening said I was on 0.5mb but line was capable of 1mb. I'm currently on silver £9.99 To upgrade speed I had a choice of 2 packages

£12.99 or £6.99. For the £6.99 one I would need to take AOL talk.
Both were for 12 months and included a new router.
She did not say if Aol Talk had any inclusive calls.

£6.99 seems a great deal. A few months ago(problems at server changeover) I would not have entertained a new contract but since then it has actually been very stable.

Thinking about now - I remember getting emails last year saying they were upgrading the speed. So I should have already had this updated without being locked into a new contract.

Had also already been offered AOL Talk unlimited 01/02/03 numbers.
  • Rankles with me that I can only get around 1MB speeds (distance from exchange) and best deal I get is £14.99. Yet people capable of getting up to 8MB can get the £9.99 deal! I've been an AOL customer for 6 years.

this is why I don't understand what the 12.99 deal is they are offering. Have also been an AOL customer for more years than care to remember.

You must have heard the Irish accent correctly....I was offered the same thing.

I called up for a house move, and the operator (who, to my surprise, could speak English!) did her business....then asked what I currently pay, she said she will look up to see if I can be offered anything else...........and I was given the £6.99 provided I sign on for another 12 months (i was out of contract).

I have been assured I will still be on the old AOL Silver, and not the new bandwidth limited package....and I still have the unlimited anytime local calls from AOL Talk.......

At least that subsidises part of the 125 Im having to pay BT!

It doesn't matter if you use aol software or not, you can still use "live help" online.
Go to aol.co.uk and sign in, just as you would for email, then scroll down to the bottom of the page to where the small print is and click on "contact", from there you can access live help online.

I was offered the router last month at 12.99 with free anytime unlimited calls if I signed on to an 18 month contract........

I didnt want the contract, and I was happy with my current router....so I politely refused and they gave me just free calls at 9.99 for no contract...
