Yeah it's true when was the last time you looked for support from Microsoft? It's a hugely over-hyped "advantage" to full retail price software.

I think the main advantage of a retail version of Windows is that you can install it on more than one computer (though not at the same time obviously).
Getting support from MS is a bit like going to the dentist; except it's more painful and you have to wait longer. :(

And of course, dentists only stick things in one end....:p

there is no difference what so ever between my vista ultimate and a guy who buys it from say PC world other than the price and fancy packaging....other than i can ONLY use it on my PC once and thats it.....oh and i can't ring the ever so helpful microsoft....really not worth the extra 100 odd quid

i believe people get scared into thinking that they must get help from one place when they quite clearly don't

i'm offering a chance for people to save themselves quite a large amount of money
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right

I very much doubt you can legally install a retail version of Windows on more that one pc, when you buy Windows its for one pc unless you buy more than one licence from Microsoft.

You have a license to use it on one PC. If you uninstall it from one PC then you are perfectly within your rights to install it on another one.

Yes you can provided it's not on more than one PC at a time, ie you have it on one, it breaks, fed up with it, whatever you can remove it from that PC and install it to a new PC, this is not the case with an OEM.

Don't think anyone suggested you could, though I can't be bothered going back to look.

Well yes, and it's what I would do if I hit my head and decided i wanted to use Windows again.

But what's not important to you (no support and a non-transferable license) might be important to others, so it makes sense to point it out.

An OEM license is just what it says, it's a license for an Original Equipment Manufacturer. There's nothing to stop you using one AFAIK, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you are sure you know what you're doing.

My ex once had an with Windows tech support. She had swapped a motherboard over for a customer, only to find their (OEM) license was no longer valid. It took a serious argument for them to accept it was the same PC!

And people are asking me why I don't sell computers with Windows....

Don't forget you only need to buy Vista upgrade, since you can install Vista then 'upgrade' itself to the full edition. Google for the procedure.

That method breaks the EULA and isn't legal..
