Contraception Advice

I have the same problem, can't use hormone based contraception because it gives me terrible mood swings etc and my GP wouldn't let me have an IUD as I suffer from heavy/painful periods. I can really recommend the Persona monitor though. I've been using it for quite a while now and it's really easy to use. It's not 100% fail safe but I'd say it's fine if you're in a stable relationship and want to avoid pregnancy but it wouldn't be the end of the world if an accident happened.
It's not the most money saving option though I'm afraid. You just check the monitor each morning to see if you get a red or a green light, green means you're safe and red means you should avoid intercourse. 8 mornings a month you will get an orange light which means you need to pee on a stick and put it into the monitor, a few minutes later it then gives you the normal red or green light. A months supply of sticks costs about £10 in boots but you can get them online a little cheaper.0 -
The normal pill made me like the she-devil, but then I went on the mini pill and felt as right as rain!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0

I can't have anything with hormones and so have an IUD fitted. I find this option fantastic. Once it is in you really can forget about it (provided you check the strings are still in place periodically). The advantage for me was that I had it removed so we could TTC and I got pregnant in the first month, as opposed to waiting for my body to get back to normal following the Pill et al.
The down side is slightly heavier periods but the trade-off for me was well worth it.
:T :T :T
Anything with hormones in it gives me a constant period (seriously, i had one for 1 1/2 years...) I had my copper coil fitted nearly a year ago now, and its the BEST thing ive ever done.
The added bonus, of course, is that it can stay in for up to 10 years...
It was really uncomfortable having it put in if im being honest, but other than that, Ive had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever....You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

My mum got pregnant twice using the coil! And the last time she ended up with twins lol
I'm on cerazette now. Take it for the full month without a break. I think it's progesterone-only. Been on microgynon till it started making me want to vomit each time I attempted to swallow it, and cilest which was awful.
Also tried depo-provera injection - bad headaches, stomach swelling and moodiness. One minute I could quite easily rip someone's head off, the next I wanted to hug them!
It may be worth talking it through with ur Gp's nurse or at the clinic and make an informed decision. I personally don't like people messing with me "down there" and don't like the idea of metal being put inside me....if they'd let my fella do it, I wouldn't have a problem LOL
;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)0 -
Don't have sex, works for me.

Only joking, I'm TTC at the moment and am not using anything but before that I used depo injection which was brilliant for me. No periods. :T:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0 -
i had the emergency coil fitted on thursday
after coming off of the depo which i was on for 4 yrs. i had to go to the family planning clinic to get it fitted and had read the leaflet so was expecting some 'mild discomfort' when it was being fitted.......err try 'bloody painful' it really hurt having it put in, it is the non-hormone one which is what i wanted but now it feels like it is slipping i can feel it if that makes sense it's not painful but i know its there every now and then i can feel it poking me again not painful but i am getting it checked monday to see if its moved. Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts

Depo can be great - but the vast majority of women gain weight on it (says she who gained a LOT of weight on it - TWICE!) and coming off it can really mess you up... I had periods every 2 weeks for quite a while until we found a pill that not only sorted my extreemly heavy periods and also stop the inbetween periods.
Just came off it now as we're going to TTC in the next could of months...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Diaphragm is easy to use and very comfortable. No side effects and can be doubled up with a condom during your fertile days.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

I concieved my first baby using a diaphragm/cap and my fourth while on the mini pill .
You really do need to get professional advice as everyone is so different in their needs and preferences. Natural methods are really not very reliable even if you use the machines with sticks, if it wouldn't be the end of the world if you became pregnant then these methods can be fine but if you really really don't want a baby then think carefully.
Some different brands of the combined pill can reduce side effects so it could be worth changing brands, sometimes Doctors won't prescribe the more expensive brands if something cheaper is acceptable to you. If you don't tell them they won't know and you are the one who is left feeling rough or at risk of getting pregnant .
I had a copper coil for several years and it was fine my periods got gradually heavier but I managed to cope with them. If you haven't been pregnant before then they may have difficulty inserting a coil, (which means it would be painful too!) a mirena coil (the hormone one) is bigger so even more difficult to insert, it can also give you hormone side effects , I found I bled for 18 months continuosly with one but I have colleauges who think they are fabulous ! As I said we are all different.
Pluck up courage ...go make that appointment...
Good luck

Thanks for this Mrs Tine,
I was on depo for 3 1/2 years and found it fab, but now on the mini pill and have been having heavy periods every other week. I am allergic to latex so am really scared of trying condoms of any type. We got married two months ago and are hoping to have a baby sometime next year. I am considering coming off the pill as the doctor says this is the only way my periods will settle down. I am worried i will become pregnant really quickly as every female member of my family conceived within a day or two of coming off the pill!
