Some people, however kind hearted are LL's not registered charities.

I've got bloody toothache, but don't ring up the tenant at 2.00am and tell him.

I'd suggest that if building societies are more flexible than LL's then the tenant takes the plunge and buys a house, then they just ring up and tell the BS, and don't risk action by the LL.

Stable accomodation is accomodation that you have bought and can service the loan an other expenses on, anything else is transient.

Well I for one don't like a society where a whole load of babyboomers have used the luck of the economic cycle and their existing equity to buy up all the houses and force transient lifestyles and disintegrated communities on a whole section of society. I don't want to be paying for the social side-effects of unstable accommodation.
  • Most people wouldn't but I have come accross one or two meglamaniacal BTLers who have lost the plot with their empires.... the type who let themselves in, expect cushions to be plumped on specific days, think because it's their property they can dictate how tenants live and have unfettered access.

Not surprising given the current fashion to advise tenants to do whatever they want and make the LL have to use the court system to enforce the contract.

I DO have a right to be paid and have my house looked after. In return the tenants has the right to use the house in a proper manner without disturbance.

You are not advising me as I requested, you are just abusing me and basically making me feel like the scum of the earth. Hope you feel better for it.

Successful people don't hang around on forums bragging they can dictate when/where/how people live or that creating a situation with lack of tenure is their right. Insecure people might.

It's a failing in the systems for dealing with people who have genuine issues finding accommodation which is worse, a section 21 isn't sufficent to obtain tenured social housing any more - blame society, the legal framework not the individual left with few choices:

advising her to get out with nowhere to go with two kids

advising her to try to maximise chances to get tenure and to stay put until legally evicted whilst paying rent

It does seem like there was more!!

The OP has said that she has cleared the arrears.

It might be worth a phone call to the LL (or his wife) to state that and you would like to stay, and you have now sorted out your financial affairs, and there won't be any more missed payments.

I can fully understand, however, that most LLs don't want the extra grief of chasing rent with everything else.

I just got a new tenant and the first payment didn't come through. It was a bank? (Nationwide) mess up and has now been sorted, but has taken time to sort out which I didn't need

This LL hasn't played by the rules either - not protecting the deposit initially - why he should expect a higher moral standard from the tenant now is difficult to judge...

Very good speech. Which is it to be then? the original home owners for exploiting a false market or the purchasers for their greed?

No good being bitter because you didn'y happen to win, I also didn't first time around.

I'm an owner occupier so no bitterness as haven't rented for quite a while.

I just happen to also care about the communtiy I live in. Just because I'm alright does not make me deeply unhappy at the lack of tenure and stability created by ASTs. I can see the social and knock-on increase in my tax bill to deal with the effects and I don't like it.
