Fabric conditioner

I don't normally use it, mainly cos I don't want to add yet more chemicals to our environment, partly because of money and a dislike of strong smells, but I recently used a free sample of a new one and the clothes were much softer and really smelt lovely. So now I'm wondering--should I?

I sometimes use it - never on towels, but sometimes on DH shirts and usually on the bedding.

I wouldn't think of using it on handwash items and DH's rugby kit doesn't get it either!!!

edited to add: I use tesco's own pure fabric conditioner - because its my preferred smell.

I don't really get all this moaning about the way laundry products smell - I think it's a good thing! That said, I have tried some I've not liked. I've tried using vinegar and tried using nothing and the results were the same. I don't use a lot of fabric conditioner, but now that I've moved to the hard water capital of southern England (East Anglia), I'm using it for every load. If I didn't, I'd have to tumble dry everything from damp to avoid crispy-sock syndrome.

I live in E anglia and use ariel liquitabs or persil equivalent - dont they have conditioner in them for the price? I have tried others i find dont wash well or smell nice ( i know its personal preference)
so do i need to downgrade washing powder and add conditioner and stick as i am?

i use to use lenor as i loved the softness of my clothes but now i use white vinegar and have no complaints

I use it on everything except towels, I have loads of it in the pantry, only because I work for a company that makes it!

I always use a bit, else everyone moans about their crunchy clothes :rolleyes: .

always used o use it until a really low money money month. Nobody seemed to notice until I told them and then they allstarted moaning!! never gone back to it--also don't really like to add even more chemicals to the waterworks.

I am a sucker for laundry products. I use Ariel powder for whites, and if there are any new fabric softeners I HAVE to try them. I must or die. Apparently. I love the comfort sweet almond oil one but that's £2 a bottle. The fairy one is also nice...as are the new ones (black diamond or something like that?) I'm a softener !!!!! *blushes*
In my defense, I bulk buy when they are on offer, and I do use the concentrated version, and not put as much in as recommended. We're in a hard water area too.

I have recently got some dryer balls; a pair of sort of spikey plastic balls that you put in with the dryer cycle and they are supposed to fluff up and soften the washing. No nice smell, obviously (but my washing powder makes the clothes smell nice). Seem to avoid crispy drying.

They are quite pricey in Woolworths & Lakeland etc, but mine were from Poundland!
