Help! Dead rats in the garden!

Thanks for all the info and suggestions.
My mother is a vegetarian so no meat or cooked food in the compost bin; no food scraps in bin bags...though she occasionally puts food (bread crumbs) out on the bird table.
Just hope there aren't too many more during the summer...0 -
I found 4 dead mice down the side of my house in one week last month  fortunately I haven't found any more since. It seemed so odd that it briefly crossed my mind that the neighbours might have thrown them over, but like Miss Behaving said it's pretty unlikely, they'd just flick them in the bin. I think they were poisoned by them, but just happened to be passing through when they died.0

Rats spread weils disease in their pee, that water butt is potentially dangerous.
There is a good site which explains what pest controllers do...

I believe they sorted it out 3 years ago............Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

I always just dig a pit and bury a mouse/rate/bird corpse if I find one...is this the wrong thing to do?0

Theoretically a determined rat could burrow down and eat it, but I doubt it. Binning it seems easier thoughFreedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).

I'd put a stick into your (water ) butt - don't want to cause offence! That way if something such as a bird goes in it can get out easily. Strange the rat drowned - they are normally very agile. I do wonder if it had been poisoned. They go seeking water if they have ingested rat poison.0

Yes, but maybe before expiring the rat had kids......"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170 -
OK, removed the rat from my butt and drained out all the water.
Huge it was - now bagged and binned.
The council want to come round and put down poison, but isn't that rather dangerous for other animals particularly cats?
Thinking of getting myself a cat anyway.
Cheers
I had the council round and they just put down the same rat killer as you can buy,we have terrible rat problem we back onto a nature reserve we`ve seen 3 in the garden !!! have put rat poison in compost bin(as thats where they started hunting for food, the the black bait type box)and it does get eaten but they don`t seemed to dissappear? I can see no end ,we do feed the birds and that won`t help but i feel why should the birds starve because of the rats ? Sorry high jacked they post a bit0 -

I find it unusual that 4 mice should all pick the same place to die - sounds like a suicide pact lol. I`m guessing that a cat has a chosen spot to dump her kills.Freedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).
