hardly the same thing... im sure your mum doesn't have to do only 3 peoples hair per day...
childminders are only allowed to look after a set number of children.. for obvious reasons.

Your point here is completely lost on me - I'm happy to acknowledge I may be missing the obvious though!

Isn't it exactly the same? In that the customer would have to pay someone else if they wanted their hair done and the hairdresser would not be available for the week?

The difference is when the client goes on holiday, as the hairdresser is able to take another client, if they can get one, for that week. So obviously, the client does not need to pay to keep their seat empty.

I suggest you report these people then as Ofsted allow UP TO six children and that includes the childminder's own children.

I suggested it is - especially as some childminders - not all at all - cram 8 kids in one room.

    For example - 8 x £30 a day = £240
    a week = £1200

    Over a year = approximately 60k

Then a childminder only has to declare 1 third of that income - they are only taxed on a third of that I believe.

VERY NICE EARNER - not for me though or my husband. And we never got past the stage of laughing about how it wouldn't suit us and how we don't have the room :)

    Anyways. The point is.

I am not having a go at anyone claiming Tax Credits - I was just pointing out, that for those who get practically the full 70% paid and then don't mind paying all the half fees/full fees to the childminders, wont miss the money anyways as it is given to them.

Very fair comment and I am sure the Mums and Dads on this board who struggle without any help will see where I am coming from.
this is impossible... you can't look after more than 3 under 5 years at once.. and only 1 under 12 months..

over 8's are at school for most of the year

a hairdresser is not limited in what they can earn though.. they can 'do' as many clients as they want.. therefore earning as much as they are willing to put in the hard work..= affording a holiday

a childminder cannot simply think 'right i want a holiday this year, i will double my workload for a few months'

because childminders are limited in what they can earn..
most childminders have their own children... so lets say they have 1 under 5.. so they are allowed 2 more to mind..
you are only allowed 3 under 5... older children will be at school in the day even if you do mind them after..

im sure your mum would not like to be limited to doing 6 customers a day by law.. it will be her choice how much work she does..

Hair dressers are limited to the amount of hair they can cut in any given day, surely?

And what about hairdressers who work from home, and around their children? They are as restricted as childminders but in a different way. Should their clients pay them when they are not there, because their earnings are limited?

How would it be illegal - she told me she had an Assistant. The Womans own kids were adult and had been Police checked.

She told us she had 8 kids there and could take two of mine on. That would bring it up to 10.

I want all my 3 together.

    VERY NICE EARNER -

god i wish... i earn nowhere near that not even in my wildest dreams nor do any of the other childminders i know in my area.....if it's this good why are so many leaving this proffession????

you are not automatically registered for 8 chidlren each childminder's circumstances are different i.e size of house etc i am only registered for 3 under 8 and my friend 5....i do not charge when i am on holiday and only charge half when parents are away this guarantees the child's space is always available to them.i always give at least 3 months notice and for the past few years it's been a years notice.....
many parents do not consider this a proper job i even had one parent hand over my pay and said ''here's this weeks pocket money suppose you'll be buying new clothes with it'' i am a single mum and this so called pocket money pays my rent bills etc.
then you get those whose checks bounce or are late paying and dont seem to care or think it's a big deal

i love looking after the kids and thankfully the parents i have at the minute are great just have to get rid of ofsted and all it's ridiculous paperwork and my job would be perfect:p:p......
sorry for going on lets face it there are some fantastic childminders and parents and then there are some awful cm's and parents it works both ways .....

I am presuming he is registered as she told me he is the one with Car Insured to take the kids out on trips!
