As another poster stated, it does apply in some instances - not all.

Nope, they only have to declare one third for income support purposes.

They are taxed on all of their net (after genuine job-related expenses) income.

Allowable expenses are very clearly laid out by the inland revenue and specified in the pack sent to all self-employed people with their self-assessment income tax forms.

Didn't mean to be nippy with a one line answer Dippy.

Anyway just sounds like you have a bad childminder full stop and maybe wouldn't begrude holiday pay as much if you had a good one. My OH is a childminder and we try to take our holidays around the parents time off. We had to use childminders ourself for a few years prior to Lisa becoming one herself and had some good and some bad, so she knows both sides of the coin and tries to do the best for everyone. One childminder would take every Bank Holiday off, plucking obscure, never heard of dates out of thin air. She also wanted full pay for a maximum of 4 weeks sick, and boy did she use them.

Your 8-to 10 children childminder was probably a front for a child labour sweatshop
