A fiend for life.. thanks for the advice. My curtains hang 3/4 of the way down the radiator and are unlined, so i'm planning to buying some new shorter & thicker ones. I'll double up the ones I have now and hang them over my front door...

Anyway, it's i-measure day tomorrow. Good look with all your readings folks!

My nPower monthly payment for gas has just risen to £38 per month. The bill gave an average figure of 15kwh per day. I rarely have the heating on and haven't used it so far this Autumn, however I did have it on for a while last Winter. My initial reaction to the figure was "No way !!", so I started thinking about what uses the gas. Now, cooking doesn't use a lot so it had to be hot water. My combi boiler is rated at 27kwh (max input) and a shower in the morning, shower in the evening, bowl of water for shaving, washing pots means that it's easy (even for a single occupier) to have the boiler running at full tilt for 30 minutes per day producing hot water and that's where the 15kwh (give or take a bit as the boiler has a pilot light burning 24/7) comes from. I went to Wilkinsons yesterday and bought a couple of cheap buckets. The long power showers are going and it's going to be a case of running the boiler for a few minutes to half fill the buckets and bucket washing for me from now on.

Hi Kje...prior to having my heating on, we were using 1 unit of gas (approx 11Kwh) per day. I have no idea what my boiler's rating is, but like you I was amazed at how much gas the boiler was using just by the pilot light and for hot water.

Whilst I could easily manage the bucket, Mr & Miss Twit would not, so I just have to grin and bear it.

I have updated my Imeasure readings.
Slight increase on last week, mainly on the electric, but as I was away for the weekend, I came home to find the heated towel rail in the ensuite had been lleft on.

    Gas 255 kwh
    Elec 85 kwh

My carbon rating is now D and my club rating is 12/48 (seems one of men is missing  )

That sounds a lot for heating water to me

We were averaging about 10.5kW/day over the summer (hot water and hob), but at the end of August I changed the timer so that my water only gets heated for 30 mins a day instead of 2-3 hours (meaning we're much the same useage as you).

Since then I've recorded a month with a daily average of 7kWh, followed by a week the same, then a week of 10kWh (had the heating on for a while), and another week of 7wKh. So even with heating the water (and having a nice hot tank to pull on) we're only using half of yours !!!

  • Updated my measure and am currently sitting on a D again whooo hoo.

    Sitting at 24 / 48 oops no now 28

    I have used:

    Gas: 55kWh (£1.93):j
    Elec: 27 kWh (£3.24):o

the electricity is sitting stubbornly on 27 I have tried shifting it for the last 3 or 4 weeks. I just can't seem to shift it.My average will bump up next week because I am still taking advantage of low gas usage in the last week of September.

    C'est la vie.

I'm an "A" rating again this week Used 37KWH Electric and 64 KWH Gas (compared with other households using 57KWH Electric and 1446 KHW gas.)
  • This week is......wait for it......energy saving week. I don't know about everybody else but I have reached a limit as to how much I can save. Unless I switch the gas off for a week of course. Or go for cold meals  not sure about that. I suppose I could live on what food I've got in the house which is certainly possible.

    Any ideas?

It's great drying weather out there by the way.

It's also National Baking Week -- the two hardly go hand-in-hand in my eyes

  • GUESS WHAT??

    I'm a C!!! :j :j :j

I have no idea why because our use of gas has risen sharply and I'm 47/48 in the MS club but I am really pleased.

I have also noticed that when compared to people in similar households (2 people, detatched) we have about half their carbon emissions and are using a lot less gas than them (about half as much) although we are about evens on electric use. Which came down a little bit this week by the way, I made my 9kwh per day target bang on :)

All I can think is that a lot of people with even worse boilers than mine have started using the site :)

And it's sunny and breezy and I've got a wash on the line which might actually dry :j :j :j

Good day here all round, hope its all going well for everyone else.
