My Energy use Diary

Hi:hello:,
Had a busy week, as I had a pile of family visiting. Chaos (but of the fun variety:D). Bad from an energy point of view:rolleyes: - the dishwasher was on everyday, the hot water was also on twice a day and my big SMEG oven cooking meals for many. So I ended up using an average of 15kwh per day over the last 5 days taking my monthly average to 12kwh per day - so must do better over the remainder of the month.....I still haven't turned on my freezer or additional fridge;)
All the Best

Tested fridge freezer this morning between 5am and 11am it used 0.2kWh so 0.8 per day.
I don't have one of those meter things so I had to do it the hard way.
Scary thing is the PC has been off all day so I have just been reading. In 12 hours I used 0.8kWh.:j
Washed hair - cold water
Washed dishes - cold water
Cooked lunch - the rest was cold food.
Boiled about 2ltrs of water for coffee - some using residual heat - yeah I know its a lot of coffee.
Wonder how much this trusty old PC uses...0 -
Hello 'frugal-leccie-itis' sufferers, I'm doing well on the 'no daily hot water' rule, helped along by being away for most of last weekend, but it just hasn't stopped raining all week and the tumble dryer is going to HAVE to go on tonight! Still, it means I'll can see how much it costs, as the only other things on through the night are the fridge & freezer (separate units) and they use a single unit per night.
From 1st until 16th August, we have used 120 kwh, which averages out at about 9 per day after deducting the 2 days we weren't here. This is exceptionally low for us, but I would love to maintain this if I could (despite the cold, wet weather that seems to have been here all month!).
Loving the helpful tips and information about power useage, I've never been this leccie conscious before and it's helping the budget loads! :TI reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Yesterday's electricity was a good one got down to precisely 2kWh. This is getting silly though as at 24p that is nearly less than my standing charge 15p.
This is a one off I think though as I did none of the chores that you would normally do on a weekly basis.0 -

wow, thats great not sure I'd ever get my usage that low, I really must try harder.0 -
Good one Fiend.....I've been averaging 21kwhp per week for the last several
weeks and at Ebico rate 10.86p inclusive... 32 and a half pence a day. Can just about stand that.
Winter time will average 25 to 30kwh's p.w. and a price increase in the pipeline.0 -
Thanks ken68,
Your actually doing better than myself then as I have crept up a little in the weekly average. I had a big jump last week to 31, I think, and previous week was 22 (Friday to Friday). Slightly different compared to the imeasure one I think. I'll see tomorrow morning.
I did a few washes last week though.
Ebico sounds good though. So I will be switching to them shortly.
32 and half pence a day sounds good I'm absolutely gutted with the 15.10p standing charge. Bumps me up to 39p for the last 24 hours.
Hmm...just 'measured' how much this pc takes...approx 0.9kWh in 4 hours!? Sounds too high I'll try it again.0 -

Wow! Our standing charge is 20.81p (+ vat) per day!
Last night's venture into the land of tumbledrying resulted in a 3 kwh increase, so that would have cost almost 16p (+ vat) during cheap rate. I am pleasantly surprised that such a 'luxurious' convenience cost so little! :T It is a fairly new machine that requires no timer as it automatically cuts out when humidity reaches a level that indicates the clothes are dry. It's a 6kg machine and it had a full load, so I'm not complaining about it, especially as there hasn't been a decent drying day in weeks. It costs about 35p to heat a full tank of water and about 10p to do a full load of washing if I wait for cheap rate to kick in, it's the winter heating bills that kill us!I reserve the right not to spend.

Okay so my first full week of energy saving has passed. And I'm pleased with the results. In the last week we've used 112kwh gas (16 per day) and 59kwh electric (8.5 per day). The gas use is slightly up admittedly, it's been b***y cold here in Belfast and we've had the heat on for half an hour or so every night, which has also helped with drying washing since it has also been raining constantly. But the electric use has gone down - I have some rudimentary records from before and our lowest electric use was 9.5 kwh per day and the more normal read would be about 11kwh per day at this time of year. I reckon I've achieved this by turning off all the standbys that are normally left on ... beyond this I've done everything much as normal. So this is a saving of around 17.5 kwh/£2.22 per week!!
Still have to tackle the fridge issue though....0 -
 Well done, Belfastgirl.
I'm just off the phone to someone near Belfast and they were saying that the gardens in their area are flooded because of the amount of rain that's fallen recently! I'd best stop grumbling about how miserable the weather has been here as I'm really fortunate to be somewhere that isn't prone to flooding. Far better to learn to control expenditure on expensive electricity than have to worry about replacing belongings lost to flood damage, I am sure. I hope you aren't in one of the areas affected.I reserve the right not to spend.
