royal mail refusing to deliver -any advice custardy?

Thanks Custardy. I'll get a wall mounted box if I really have to - are they likely to complain about having to bend to put the post in, as there really isn't anywhere else to position it other than on the back of my low front wall.
Goes against the grain though when my own postwoman is quite happy to use my letter box, (and is actually the one encouraging me to complain about the relief staff, although I obviously can't tell her boss that.)
Re collecting my own mail - I haven't been given that option , as tin pot hitler at the sorting office has just said he's going to return to sender as it being undeliverable - he didn't say I could collect myself if I had to?
Edit: sorry to hear about your terrible day. I don't have any issues about royal mail as a rule, the regular staff do a grand job. Just the relief eejits. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
well he would have to return it as inaccessable,i dont se that happening
thats only really for totally inaccessable areas.
like in my delivery whn they evict people and seal the doors, yes its that nice
you really need to work with the DO manager(is there only 1?)
nowhere you can put somthing like this?

i'll take that
service? it was a service, now its a business
It's still a service you provide, it may be run along different lines but that doesn't change what you are.RM scared of competition? more like the competition scared of the USO
universal service obligation
Except if you don't like where the letter box is.I have a very elderly friend of the family who was told she could no longer have post delivered as her letterbox was in the bottom of the door and that she coulnd't expect the postman to bend down.
Having said that the majority of posties are great, mine certainly is.0 -
That's what he's threatening - return to sender with "No point of delivery."
Thank for the link - the top of the box would be 22" off the ground.
I don't think the DO manager is looking to be reasonable to be honest - he's making a big deal in his letter about having called to see me 3 times and I wasn't in. If he'd bothered to leave a note, I would have contacted him and arranged to be in.
Argumentative I can deal with, stroppy for the sake of it gets right up my nose! Want to come and work in this area - I might stand a chance of some sense then. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

your digressing
where is the competition?
see the big picture and the constraints RM are tied to
its a business expected to return a profit
personally i would make it a planning regulation to set the parameters for the height/position of letterboxes
those below knee height or at head height are a pain and in some cases a total killer
we just had a new complex of 200 flats built
all the letterboxes are about 1 foot off the ground
wheres the sense in that?0 -
Saw a nice american style somewhere when I was a way last week end...cant remember where! Lidl? Cant say if they are any good ....just glanced in the passing.0

Royal Mail are within their rights to return mail to sender if suitable access is not provided for delivery.
You can collect your mail from the Delivery Office - this is the 'Mail Collect' service and can be arranged by completing an application form at the Delivery Office.
Whilst you are on holiday there is a service they offer called 'Keepsafe' where you can arrange to have your mail held whilst away and redelivered on your date of choice (may give you peace of mind whilst away)?0 -
Thanks, kinda reinforces my point though. The manager is trying to scare me by not actually telling me what all my options are. That's why I was wondering if I can bypass him and go to a higher level? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

of course,however its tricky
you really need to go via customer services.
you can just ask him for contact details of the regional manager
you havent said if there are other managers?
must be tiny if there is only one?
the other side of the coin is if the posties are stating access is hindered he has to action this
RM are huge on H&S and are pushing hard on it just now to cut accident rates0 -
Postwatch are the consumer watchdog. However, they tend only take a complaint on board if you have given Royal Mail customer services a chance to resolve it for you first but remain unhappy with the outcome.
You could write to the Chairmans Office direct, they will response to you directly?0
