  • WOW! What a thread! Iv just read it all! Lots of ups and downs! But you have done fantastically! You really have. Keep on at the CCCS, if anything ever changes, ring them and tell them. We have used them a lot, and they have been fantastic. We'd probably have been chucked out of our house by now if it wasnt for them!
Hi Lucielle, well the phone calls have started again, and started to get a bit nasty. My husband spoke to MBNA to explain that we couldn't pay more than our DMP amount, and they said, "well, then you're looking at bankruptcy aren't you...?" But, then my husband came off the phone said to me, "why don't we get a loan for £50,000 secured on our house? The man at MBNA suggested it........" I asked him whether he didn't realise himself why we couldn't do that.. Deep breaths, deep breaths....

Dont ever EVER speak to them on the phone. They lie. They bully. And they cause more sleepless nights! Never arrange any payment plans on the phone either, chances are it will be completely ignored, and they will continue to bombard you.
Tell them ALL communication is to be done in writing, and demand they remove your number from their files. They have to by law. THEY ARNT ALLOWED TO CONSTANTLY RING AND THREATEN YOU!!
There is a fantastic thread on here somewhere about a woman who was being harrassed by these companies. She sent them a few scary letters re harrassment etc, and they were falling over themselves appologising whenever they by accident.

    WELL DONE!!

    You should be so proud!
  • Thank you George, I'm going to follow that up - it's getting so annoying. I'm guessing that the people that call (what a terrible job, poor souls) are on a commission, and any extra money they can eke out of you they get paid on a commission on. It's always, "well if you can just make a one-off extra payment...", and they won't listen when you say that you are already paying all you can afford.

minimee - thank you, I really appreciate it. It's so encouraging when people comment on our journey - that some progress has been made! I'm a different woman to the one I was in June, for sure... I just hope we can keep on going.

  • _party_ Hooray! all but one of our creditors have agreed to stop charges and minimise/freeze interest! Man at Lloyds TSB was postitively nice to my husband today. MBNA are only ones who are sticking....but then they are our biggest creditor - £18,000 ish. Whatever did we do with that money?? I don't remember having any fun with it. I hope we can convince them we can't pay them any more than we are at the moment, and maybe I'll find a job quickly once I've got the book off to agents finally. Three years work, but it should be any day now that I'll have the editing finished......! _party_

    hi FMN,

i've just spent 3 hours reading your thread - i've laughed and even cried at some of your and others posts.

You've done so well and you should be very proud of yourself as you can probably see from my signature i started to try and get my finances sorted in march this year but then my dad became ill (we lost him in july) and everything went pear shaped again but picked ourselves up and dusted ourselves off and really knuckled down in september.

i work in the banking industry and all i can say is i'm ashamed at the way the collection depts behave - you're right they are on commission(usually) - but like others have said - don't talk to them, put the phone down on them if necessary.

good luck and this may seem strange as it's the first time i've posted here but - love - to you and your family

  • Thanks lucielle.

Hi gtx - wow, I really appreciate it, 3 hours! Thanks so much for what you say, and for the love you sent. I'm so sorry to hear about you Dad - I can't imagine how that must feel. Glad to hear you're getting back on track with your finances now though.

  • Hi, thank you so much lucielle, verbatim and miggy. It's so nice feeling cared about! Things are really OK, though still wrestling with MBNA... 2 months into our DMP and I suppose things are starting to settle down. We're all getting used to living within a tight budget, though my poor daughter blushed to the roots of her hair when asked how much she got as an allowance... answer £0 at the moment, but I need to change that I think, even if it's just a token £5/month. She gets money from friends for babysitting, but that's all.

I've been very preoccupied with my book, and I've now finished the editing. Quite a few of my friends have read it now and they've all been very, very postitive about it, so the next step is agents... One of my friends has published five novels, and wants to show it to her agent, so fingers crossed... There are two jobs I've seen, and am applying for those tomorrow also. I need heaps of luck please !

I hope you all are ok.
