Oh heck, its my 21st wedding anniversary tomorrow:eek: Thank goodness I am separated and no longer need to celebrate it:rotfl:
I can remember when I got married at my local registry office, my parents hired a vintage car for me and when I came out after doing the deed the cheeky couple who were in after me were posing for their photos in front of my car - I was a bit put out to be honest as I thought "what a damn cheek", mind you the chauffeur looked pretty pleased with himself especailly as I found out afterwards that he had pocketed some money for allowing the other bridal party taking pics of him and his car:rotfl:0 -
I well remember the 'scrammie/scramble' & how the local kids loved it, a real event for themshelovestobuystuff wrote: »When I was little all the local kids would rush to the church when they heard the wedding bells. The 'scramble'was traditional. The groom would throw handfulls of money out of the wedding car as they were slowly leaving down the church drive and all the kids would pick up what they could then run after the car chearing.Everyone came to catch a glimpse of the bride.
There was often about a hundred non-guests waiting outside to see them off.
If it got about that it was a well off family then the church yard was full, more money for the scramble.
although I did hear of some who'd heat the coins on a shovel, toss them out & watch the kids pick up & then drop the hot pennies
back on topic ... up here, there are almost always crowds (not just a few people) outside churches watching the bride enter the church, or watching the bride & groom leave & no-one thinks anything of it other than that passers-by want to share in the happy occasion
I never imagined anyone getting married in church would or could object0
