To be honest I'm not really thinking long term at present just happy to be dealing with the situation and taking each day as it comes.
Find for me thats the best way to cope.
Good luck with it all, keep posting.

    Hi Kudox!

Thanks for the reply! I was just reading above what yourself and Toffee Penny were saying! It was really funny! Nice to have a laugh about things sometimes to release some stress!! Toffee Penny I soooo agree with what you are saying about relying too much on credit or od's! For the first time this month I have lived solely on my own funds (after making token payments) and I'm a bit sort of shocked really at how many times I just used to hand the card over. I hate using cash...it just doesn't feel right! guess that's what got me into this mess...and trying to keep up with everyone else  anyways atleast am dealing with it now and hopefully I will be ok.

Kudox I will stay in touch. I'm not sure if I see this as a solution forever either?! I just thought that when my wages incresed (:rotfl: yes please!!) that my payments would go up and that would reduce the amount of years on dmp which quite frankly is a bit  at the moment) It's when I think about my otherr dreams as in holidays, or eventually getting married maybe that I think jeeze I can never see that happening now but who knows?! I was reading what others have said on the forums and am thinking about squirrling some money away too for rainy days and special things but then I think surely would just be best to put that towards debt!

This will be my first xmas on my dmp and I think i may just get through it ok this year as I have a little bit of money which I think will be enough from things such as ebay, but what about when that runs out...how will i pay for next xmas?! (big sigh)...dnt want to think about that now but that's what hit me today when food shopping and seeing all the lovely and (unattainable) gifts. Anyways this is probably something silly but something that makes me smile, I spoke about how a few days ago an assistant who helped me open a new bank account with Barclays (which I shouldn't actually have done as have a Barclaycard so have opened a L's TSB now ...doh) anyways I had a call from a lovely geordie man about the service I received when opening my account :rotfl: (can you see whats coming?) Basically the assistant lost all interest in me when I said I only wanted a basic account so I let the caller know and he wrote it all down and said it would be forwarded to the branch manager and her. I felt really good when I drove past there today knowing that my comments would have landed on her desk..well I guess simple things please simple minds!!

    xx DD

    Hi DD
I feel the same about holidays etc, up till last year when things went pear sahped for us, we had two main holidys a year abroad, then numerous trips for weekends, days out etc, it's hard to keep positive when those things don't figure in the future.
That probably sounds a lot selfish and I know theres people who are way more badly off than me but still.
If you ever have any spare cash I would definately squirrel it away for your special times, getting married etc, that way it'll be easier to stick to your DMP if you know you've got something amazing to look forward to.
Good on you for making your stand, why should you be treated differently just because you only want a basic account, they know they're not going to get any money out of you!

  • Hi,

I started on a Low Start DMP in September so I've now made 3 payments. Most of my credit cards have quieted down and all bar one have stopped interest and charges even though most of them have not officially accepted the DMP.

The Halifax card keep trying to get in touch saying that I'm getting into arrears but I know that they have the DMP information as I phoned back in August before the first payment to make sure they had everything. Still getting interest and charges on that one.

I've had a lot of overtime the last couple of months and I started putting some money aside each month to cover emergencies hoping that I wouldn't need it and as I'm not used to having anything to spend not missing it either.

Needless to say things have started going wrong. My uncle died last week so I've had to get train tickets to go to the funeral and my glasses are cutting into my nose so going to need new ones unless I can find some blue tack to stop it hurting (simple solution but no tack to be found unless I buy it).

Anyway, this is the first time in 4 years that I have actually been able to just buy what I needed rather than hoping my mum would help out (which she would have). It's a fantastic feeling and I'm really glad that I started the DMP. It may get difficult in the future but it's changed my life these last three months. I just thought I'd share as we have so many problems that it's nice to be able to say that even when things go wrong they can be sorted.

Sorry for long post. I do tend to ramble.

Hope everyone is feeling better about things and that all situations improve. (I'm an optimist at heart)

(By the way Uncles death had been awaited for over a year since he had terminal cancer so although it's sad news it's also a release from pain for him so not necessarily a bad thing. Hope that comes across as it's meant. Can never tell when writing how something will sound.)
    August 08 debt £58544.84, Paid £1668, Dec 08 Total £58236.48
DMP with CCCS £417 per month - Starting 01 Sept 08
Increased to £443 per month Jan 09.

    Hi all DMP'ers
Quiet on here lately maybe thats a good thing?
All's still very quiet with me not heard from any creditors for ages which I have to say feels a little weird after the constant phonecalls of a couple of months ago.
    I'm not complaining I hasten to add:j .

Anyway hope everyones ok and coping fine x

    Hi all,

Just wanted to let everyone know that over one year into the DMP when I had to reduce my DMP payments, First Direct offered me a "loan"

It was for one year with payments the same as my DMP but the final payment to be the remainder of the debt :rotfl:

Obviously it was filed in the "yeah right, as if" pile.

But two months on - what happened because I didn't sign it?????

    a big fat NOTHING!!!

No extra interest (same 6% they were charging since the start of the DMP), no court threats, nothing.

Hopefully that will give someone else a little more encouragement when HSBC/First Direct are pushing their loans at people doing DMP's :p

Actually I'm a bit disappointed as I wanted a default and interest to stop but 6% is loads better than it was and hopefully it will go down now as it's meant to be linked to the base rate too ;)
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?
  • Halifax credit card sent me a letter last month to say that they will drop the interest rate down and hold off on all the charges for the period of three months. Fine I thought untill the last week then they started to phone at all hours until they got hold of me and I explained to them that I had an arrangment with them. After a discussion on the phone asking for a payment saying that I was over the limit on the card. I said to them that I have a letter from them and then they found the letter on their system. Then all they said that I should keep up the payments with them.

Then I got my statement this morning and the interest rate is still at 23.9 % and there is charges on their. So I just keep a note of all their charges and reclaim them at a later date?

I am doing a DMP on my own so any help will be great.

  • Came home today to find a letter from HSBC about my credit card. Basically said that the £75 a month CCCS were offering is not enough and asking for reduced payments of £96 a month paid direct to them.

Think I just need to ignore this letter, but do you think I should pass it on to CCCS or email them and let them know about it?

    Hi Catwoman,
Not sure about that, a couple of my creditors have said interest would be stopped then on the statement it still shows as being applied. Maybe a case of diferent depts not knowing what other is doing?
Keep a record anyway and then at least you know where you stand in future.
Good luck with doing your own DMP, DH is just entering into that so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Andrewuk, I think this is HSBC trying it on, to see if they can bully you into agreeing to their demands. As you say ignore it.
would'nt have thought cccs need to see it but if it will put your mind at rest email them anyway
