    Hi all,

quick question, with Christmas fast approaching and a distinct lack of spare cash do you think I could ask CCCS if I can skip my next payment so I can get a few gifts for the kids, and pay token payments for that month or will they just laugh at me!

I don't want the kids christmas to be spoilt, and I cannot get them nothing at all, it's just not right..

    thanks

    D

I would say you are on a pretty sticky wicket here
How long have you been on your DMP?
When CCCS do your budget, there is an allowance for birthdays/ Christmas etc ....at least there is on mine.
I am pretty sure CCCS would be expecting you to save for presents out of this :D

I have found the allowances quite generous considering how little I had to live on before going onto my DMP with CCCS. I can save quite a lot. I know i don't have kids at home but I do have 4 cats :rotfl:
  • Morning all,

    Hope all is good.

As you may be aware my DMP is starting 1st Dec. I have done all the paperwork etc, spoken with cccs and starting getting letters from my creditors.

My most recent one tells me that they accept my new payment for a set period and will review it (Good I think) they also say that they want this payment this month (Bad I think) and if I dont they may choose to demand full payment, pass on to DCA and default me!

They have been sent my token payment of course but I don't think I can afford to pay them the other payment before my DMP starts for real.

Should I call them and discuss or chat with cccs or all of the above?

I thought I'd ask you guys first cos you all seem far more clued up than I!

    Thanks

Hi, dont worry about them saying they'll ask for full amount and default, it's all just a standard procedure at this stage, I just wrote back and reminded them of the payment schedule and that was that. A default is not such a bad thing, the sooner it happens the quicker it comes off your credit file.

  • Well, I went for it and sent all of my DMP stuff yesterday.

Account info and proof of income to CCCS
A letter informing them of DMP and £1 token payment to each creditor

    Scary stuff!

Hi all just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience.
I have a joint account with OH with overdraft and when first setting up plan cccs advised me to take my name off account.
I tried to do this filled in form etc, but the bank didnt do it and the first I knew was when they wrote to say they were accepting the DMP for a "limited" period and the joint account was on it.
I complained and got nowhere, they say my name has to stay on, so now do I include it on my DMP.
Have phoned cccs three times about this but can't get a straight answer if this is the right thing to do.
Not bothered about OH credit rating, the account is'nt used and we both have safe accounts elsewhere.
OH could afford to put a small amount in each month to it but the interst they're charging would wipe that out.
The only reason we're not on a joint plan is because OH is self employed and his income is very erratic.
Sorry for long post, if anyone has any thoughts would appreciate them.
    Hope everyone doing ok.

  • Hi Kudox (did you enjoy Deadset?) ;)

Not too sure about your query although I suppose if it was a joint account when you had the overdraft, that means your both liable to pay it back? If it's less hassle just leave your name on, sometimes it's just not worth the aggro

I recently entered a joint DMP with OH only to see because of the pro rata payments rubbish that my debt payments are now smaller and his debt payments have increased (he owes alot more than me, I did use my head in that sense! :rotfl: ) but I'm worried that that puts me in serious jeopardy with my creditors  I know the worst can happen is a ccj but even so it's the hassle of it all, everything had quietened down on the letter front and for a while I was sleeping better and going a night or two without talking 'debt' I started to feel like myself again.

Now OH is self employed and has been hit hard recently with bad weather and lower wages so I have requested a review, looks like I'm going to be on here for bloody ages now (crying really badly smiley). He says he could be out of work after christmas.

Looks like I am in for a real !!!! christmas then! worrying times ahead.

sorry for my rubbish I so desperately wanted to come on here all cheerful for the newbies.

take care I'll let you know how we get on, hope the usual crowd still around and doing well, haven't seen them much hope they haven't won on the lottery and left us here! :rotfl:

Hi Toffee, I did enjoy Dead Set, a bit cheesed off with the rubbish ending, maybe I was hoping she would get out safe, ie a nice happy ending! Oh well life aint like that I guess.
I totally sympathise with your situation, as far as i'm concerned now is not a good time to be self employed, OH works in construction industry

I'm desperately trying to think of ways to make Xmas a cheap one, have been frequenting the charity shops more and more!
I think i've come round to the same way of thinking re joint account, phoned cccs again today for advice, they said to include it I would need to have a review and suggested I try to trim down my budget! My budget is already that thin it's close to disappearing:rotfl:
Don't worry about coming on here and having a moan, sometimes thats what keeps me sane.
OMG winning the lottery if only:j

  • Hi Kudox

if I am honest not looking forward to Christmas much anyway and if I could cancel it I would just to save on the pressie spend that you feel you have to do. I'd much rather have the extra money in my bank.

I'm finding it hard to budget too, I shopped at Netto last week usually shop at Tesco but just couldn't keep doing it, needed to try and save even if it was a few quid. It was getting to the stage that no matter what I threw in my trolley it came to £90+ we have cut down alot on branded stuff (hands up I was a branded name snob!) but after family complaining about sore bums for the week when I swapped to value loo roll I decided there are some things in life you just can't skimp on :rotfl:

I think most are finding it tough at this time, is it because of christmas or is it the realisation of how much we actually relied on credit for things? I think thats what it is, a total re-adjustment to your spending habits.

I sooooo miss my overdraft :o

Anyway time to cheer up 'I'm a Celebrity' starting this weekend :j (god I am sad) :p

Yep cheap loo roll is a step too far!
We have been doing more shops at Aldi lately I must admit,at the moment the novelty value is keeping us going I think, like when something is zillions cheaper than the equivalent in Tesco.
When we do venture in Tesco now OH makes a beeline for reduced aisle!
I've decided everyone is getting home made pressies for Christmas, chutney or whatever and if they don't like it it's tough basically, as you say the cash is better in the bank.
Hope you ok, you sound like you're finding things a bit hard at the moment, keep your chin up (easier said than done sometimes I know) we'll have to keep posting and supporting each other.

  • Hi Ruthie,

Just to let you know had some correspondance from CCCS today. They sent all my proof back i.e payslip etc and they said they will be in contact again shortly. All my payments were due a few days ago and over the coming weeks so am a bit nervous  but happy that I'm dealing with it all. The thought that I am doing something about it is outweighing the negative at the moment. Just got to keep thinking this! I am on a low start DMP so I don't know what's going to happen with all that and I am worried about what the creditors will do, DCA's and all the other stuff in between!

Anyways hope you are well. Hi to everyone else on here too! I do try and answer where I can but am really new to all this also and am learning all the time! :rotfl:

Hi there - I'm definitely going to be around for a while too - I think about 9 years initially but hoping this will reduce once we've paid off mortgage arrears in January. This site is great - really makes me feel I'm not alone :o When I first decided to go down this route felt like I had DMP stamped on my forehead and everyone knew the mess I was in as I walked down the street. Now I realise lots of people are in the same boat - probably half my street ;)

Keep us updated re the CCCS - you should get your stuff before me :j :j
