Also how hard is it managing for those of you on a DMP? Ours would last for about 9 years which would see my youngest from 5 to aged 14. I hate the idea of him going without for so much of his life. Am I just being silly?

It is tricky from time to time. It starts off and you think you have lots of money left because you have everything allocated for MOT, bills etc. Then if you're like me, you get a bit cocky and think it will all be fine and spend a bit more :o

It is really important to put money away for emergencies and MOT and other yearly costs. This month, I will be attempting a new way of doing this - bank accounts with different banks. Transferring money between two online accounts with the same bank is TOO EASY - and I keep spending the stuff I'm not meant to :o.

But if you do struggle and have enough funds available, you can change figures around later to reduce your DMP payments.

I get a bit fed up that we won't be able to afford a holiday abroad for the next 5 years - and the fact that the step kids will be 15 and 18 by the time I finish this, but honestly... I was 18 before I went abroad anywhere and it never did me any harm :p

I miss skiing, beach holidays, weekends away, impromptu days out and meals out but really seriously, when I am being 100% honest with myself, I couldn't afford as much of those as I thought I could - they all went on visa :o.

I'd rather concentrate on giving the kids good healthy home cooked food (which I don't think they get much of otherwise), make sure there is always gas and electric, and try and teach them to enjoy things that don't cost much money.

Their mum and step dad are on an IVA and yet buy them new mobiles, new laptop, playstation3, wii etc etc. I think it's important for them to learn that it doesn't have to cost £100+ for you to enjoy it - cue picnics at the park if the weather is good, BBQ at friends, cheap days out with picnics etc.

    Nice post newlywed :T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T

Thanks ... I thought it was quite a bit of waffle actually :p

Just don't get me on my high horse about their mum and step dad being on an IVA and splashing out loads of cash all the time so the kids think it come on trees and that the day after you get paid it's ok to have spent it all and be broke and then borrow the pocket money my OH gives directly to the kids, so they can buy bread and milk, coz they've spent it all on a mobile phone to replace a perfectly working one that is less than a year old :mad::mad:

Hi Tinkerbell. I don't really know how CCCS will react but you have broken the terms of your DMP by using credit...even if it is in the form of your overdraft.
It's easy to be wise in hindsight but you should really have told CCCS that you could not manage on the budget they had set for you.
If you can cut back a lot with the help of MSE and clear your overdraft without telling CCCS then go for it but it depends how much slack you have got.
My oil bill had doubled since last year and CCCS were happy to include the new amount in my revised budget to go to creditors.
Worst case scenario...if they say they will terminate your arrangement you could self manage your DMP or go with Payplan.
Hope you get things sorted. I know worrying about money and debt is soul destroying.
Thanks Janey and Ex-Spendaholic for your responses.

I think that I won't mention it to CCCS just yet but maybe ring for a review, be a bit careful with the figures I give them and try to keep £50 or so back a month to pay back my overdraft. We are also in the process of downsizing and through a possible part exchange in the pipeline, we may end up with some cash as a result which could also help.

I am interested in entering competitions and also have registered with pigsback but I really don't get it!! Does anyone have any good advice with either of these or is there another forum dedicated to this??

    Thanks again....

  • hi,
apologies for my absence......am ok with all creditors except mint(rbos)...were goin to start court action in july and keep gettin solicitors letters.told cccs who think they will go for a house charge.havent told dh yet....am waitin for them to decide on the court action cos if its a charge, apparantly i have to visit court and plead with judge for a clause to stop mint from immediate foreclosure.then judge usually agrees for me not to have to repay ccharge until we sell/move....which will be never...or very soon if dh gets really mad, which he may do(at least the divorce settlement equity on the house share will pay off all my debts so theres always a bright side:) ).....anyway...i digress..
we keep exchanging letters and its like when i first started, tryin to get to the post before dh:)
have wrote to say i suffer from various illnesses which are being made worse cos of them and court, and they would be better off stayin with the dmp cos that payment will increase whereas the ccj will stay fixed.have sent proof of illnesses and they are mullin it over.
so havent been great lately as you can imagine as im so stressed with the waiting.im prayin they will stick with the dmp and no court, but tbh, i just want it to be over, one way or the other, as i feel like i cant get on with my life while they have so much power over me, iykwim.stupid, i know....but thats how i am.
i wondered if anyone else had any experience with mint loans?.have a mint cc debt and they have been really great about stuff....but its only about £300..whereas the mint loan is £5500 at £5 monthly.i thought initally that cccs would pay pro rata payments, so mint would get the most but cccs say it goes on the repayment before i got into trouble.
    will keep you posted.
nice to see all the old gang back, btw.
oh, and to add to the stress.....max spaniel is drivin me round the bend as well!!!
sometimes think that canoe man had the right idea!!!!!

People bring great joy into our lives..some by arriving, others by leaving.im trying to be one of the former, so please bear with :)

    Hi greatdates,

I have mint loan and mint CC - and have heard nothing other than a default on each. But then again, since I don't own any property it may be that they take a different view of it all.

I owe about £12k to mint loans and pay over £100 a month, and about £8k on the cc and again, pay over £100 a month, so not sure if that makes a difference too.

sorry not to be able to help, I know it's hard when you are just waiting for them to decide what they will do.

ps. The canoe man.... isn't he in jail now ;)

Hi, the only one on that list I dealt with was Great Universal. They gave me no actual hassle but did lose about 6 lots of my payments and I had to get through to "missing payments" department - worrying that they have a whole department for it!!!

It is quite worrying lol! I think i may opt for the ignoring the phone method, i'm sure anything they have to say can be written in a letter. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on stuff though, I think Littlewoods, Choice and GU are all the same company too, grrr!

  • Hello and welcome Markey.

BOS visa - I have this one. They were a bit of a pain and did ring 1 million times per day at the start but once they accept the DMP it settles down. They referred mine over to their inhouse DCA - Blair, Oliver, Scott who are nicer to deal with.

Next - I remember having a call from a nasty woman there. She told me to make a payment arrangement with them and then when the balance was clear I could make more orders. The debt was then passed to a DCA called Debt Managers Ltd. I never hear from them now.

Egg - No problem. Sent a default and then transferred it to a DCA called CSL. CSL called 1.5 years down the line asking for an update. I just got CCCS to send them info.

Thank you!! I find it easier if I know what kind of reaction to expect be it good or bad!! I'm hoping that in the grand scheme of things I don't owe all that much and that they might not come down hard on me. Am I dreaming??:rotfl:

Yeah but the plus side is that they NEVER rang me at all, just accepted the DMP payments (except the ones that went missing) - even when I asked them to call me back they didn't ;) So don't panic on their account if the phone rings :p It's all sorted now (apart from my complaint) but I thought you should know to keep an eye on it all :D

PS. If they do lose payments, it saves loads of time if you just ring and ask to be put through to the "missing payments" department - I found out the hard way
