These auctions were just last summer
1] Restaurant in Broadstairs. A family bought it and opened a restaurant in March 2008: http://www.thebaysidebrasserie.co.uk/
They paid £320k and had a £60k budget, but it doesn't show up in LR as it is a business: http://www.houseprices.co.uk/e.php?q=ct10+1nf&n=100
Agents said it'd be worth about £230k for the business and £185k for the flat over it.
2] House on a corner with shop unit on ground floor
Bought for £225k http://www.houseprices.co.uk/e.php?q=uxbridge+cowley+mill+road+84&n=100
When the programme went back, he already had a buyer for it. He had been advised to just sell it on by his partner. They'd put it on at £300k and a beautician had offered £297k. Two agents priced it at £275k and £275-280k.
Looks like the beautician deal fell through, so they put it on even higher at £325k! http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-17468740.rsp?pa_n=1&tr_t=buy
3] Couple bought a 1930s semi for £81k. http://www.houseprices.co.uk/e.php?q=ST4+4PW+145&n=100
The original owner had tried to sell it, but it had fallen through as there was some subsidence (drainage that had been fixed) so their buyer couldn't get a mortgage and pulled out, so the original owner auctioned it.
The floors were wonky/sloping.
When the programme revisited them they said they'd spent £10k including solicitor fees and had done the work themselves. They did a lot of tarting up and it's now for sale.
The two agents said £132,950 and £132-135k. They've gone with that 2nd agent, but with a higher price:

I need to get a proper hobby don't I!

So its up to date programs now then?
Are amateur people still trying to be property developers? Even after all the bad press, I am amazed.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

And I am one of them!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Of course you can, you can make money off anything, if you buy it at the right price, what does that prove?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
