  • I bought a small one for about £20 from Lidl. It is brilliant. I use it for cleaning the shower and cooker mainly. Better on the cooker than oven cleaner chemicals.

Has anyone bought the 'steam buggy' advertised on TV? They make it look so fantatstic, I almost bought one, but then my common sense kicked in. Funny thing is they are all sent out from call centre down the road...so I guess I could get away without the P & P

  • I've got a Polti. It does not clean a carpet, what I bought it for! Tiles in the bathroom is ok, but rather expensive just to do this.
Mine is now hidden in the loft. A complete waste of money!

I bought a Polti off QVC about 8 or 9 years ago - waste of money so sent it back. Then a couple of years ago tried one of those hand held jobbies. Didn't work anything like they do on the ads - but then never expected it to ;) Their burnt on grease has been put there by someone from the art dept, I'm sure. Save your money and use elbow grease - by the time the things warmed up, you could have cleaned it yourself.

I seem to remember reading a Which article about steam cleaners - vacuuming carpets well will remove/kill as much dust and mites etc as a steam cleaner. Don't think they rated the little ones overly either, but if I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me. ;D

The only thing I can think of a use for, is defrosting the freezer. I have a steam wallpaper stripper, which I had never thought of using to defrost before reading this thread - thanx :D

Yeh, we bought a "Steam Buggy" at first used it all the time and yes it does work on a lot of stuff well, some things not so good, garden furniture and barbeques, but for cleaning cookers, tops and ovens, works well, floors- good, sinks and toilets - good. But like others have said, get fed up of getting it out and filling it and waiting etc etc. Just lazy. But if you do intend to use it often, then yes I can recommend it as a good allround cleaner :) Bought it off tele.

I wouldn't have thought it getting wet was the problem, the steam would probably remove the picture of wood from the compressed board, leaving you with a compressed board floor.

  • Bought a "steam buggy" last year. Used it twice and probably never again. It's about to go on ebay.
  • I bought a steam cleaner a months ago from Superdrug. It only cost £11.99. It's fab for cleaning hob & oven. I've also used it on my kitchen floor tiles....although it takes a while. I even emailed superdrug re the replacement heads & they send me one free of charge. This wee steamer is well worth the money.

  • I bought the earlex steam cleaning kit about 6 months ago from homebase and instantly regretted it, you are basically getting a glorified wall paper remover.

once you wait 7 days for the water to steam up it comes out in a continous stream so have to carry a bucket around with you to place the nozzle in between jobs, there is no button to release a pressurised burst of steam it just keeps coming out in a sort of drizzle and drips boiling water on your face.

I wish I had bought one of those handheld jobbies with a button which blasts the steam out and doesnt need a wheelbarrow to cart around, not to be to negative it is very good on my light coloured carpets and mattress which the handheld one wouldnt be. If anyone wants it is in the bottom of the thames.
