ONE STOP PHONE SHOP : free (by way of refund) with 100 mins anytime anyline with virgin. Just got mine last week so it's fairly current offer.
I'm not worried about the refunds as they are part of CarPhone Warehouse.Nice to save.0 -

How old was the phone though? 1100 firmware from earlier this year (08-04-05) is tricky.

Maybe ebay - any other phones which are cheap and cheerful going atm? any suggestions? thanks guys - this is so helpful!

Personally, I found it very easy to unlock my 1100 but this is something people tend to be split on (looks like it's something to do with the firmware version).
If you are lucky (as I was) then you don't need to spend £30 on topups to get the unlock code from Virgin, and it makes the Virgin Lifestyle deal hard to beat, ie:
cost per handset = £26.99
but you can sell the £20 topup voucher easily on eBay for at least £15
and possiby another couple of quid for the SIM joining pack (which has the other £5 credit put on when registered)
this means that the handset has only cost you a tenner (max).
This is what I did, and I haven't got round to selling the handset yet (was contemplating keeping it as a spare) but from what jollyboy says, they seem to go for more than £25 on eBay (presumably due to problems people now appear to be having unlocking them, so these so-called "sim-free" ie unlocked ones, tend to go for a premium).
As people are now starting to think about Christmas, I'll probably think about listing it on eBay, as it seems as good a time as any !0 -
