I agree with Blacksta - You shouldn't ignore the notice. Also, if someone intends taking you to court, they are legally obliged to make available to you any information that they intend to use against you (the photographic evidence etc), so don't let them fob you off - and make sure you put everything in writing.

Still early days I suppose but I haven't heard anything yet....may try to phone Lidl today to at least confirm receipt fo the letter and get a name of the person dealing with it...

My letter to City Parking Enforcement was delivered on Monday as I had sent that recorded.

I had a letter today from LIDL, stating that they would cancel the fine...but only do that in extenuating circumstances...

Whilst I was happy to get the fine removed I was a bit angry at the comment "extenuating" so I called them.

I got an apology and explained how I had visited the car park on two occassions and how the fine was totally invalid. I was given the reason that I should have received a more personalised letter but instead got a standard one.

The person then explained how the camera's work at the car park and how in certain situations my vehicle leaving the car park may have been missed the evening before. He also went on to say this has happened before and that LIDL have referred these matters to CPE and are closely monitoring the situation as they do not want to adversely affect their genuine customers...

Apparently CPE will write to me advising that the fine has been cancelled... but I will only give it a week before I go back to LIDL.

I haven't used this website before, but it might be useful - it lets you easily appeal against incorrectly issued parking tickets:

    after receiving a parking fine

It may appear to be pedantic, it is not a fine but a charge.

As it was private property they cannot 'fine' you as you have not commited any offence. What the owners of supermarket car parks do is display a sign which says something along the lines of "Two hours parking free, after two hours £75". They argue that by parking there you are agreeing to the charge. The DVLA will provide anybody with the name and address of the registered keeper of any car for a nominal fee, so the parking enforcement companies can send you the bill.

Their argument has a number of legal holes, but they rely on most people just paying up.
  • another lidl victim....I had parked in the LIDL car park & went 22 minutes over my two hours...city parking enforcement are asking me to pay £75 by this Friday or 150 if it reaches them any later...I did not see their notice but the excess is outrageous - if I dispute the fine or go to trading standards & lose will I be liable to pay the 150??

no. it is based on the law of contract (I fail to see how the RTA applies but stand to be corrected!). tell them to - off.
