Evans Halshaw - Price Promise my as*

The car at Evans is more expensive, quite a bit more expensive, they're only evver going to match the price, not better it. The car at Toyota is a newer, has less mileage, comes from an official dealer and is all round "better" so why again is it that you want Evans to sell you the poorer one for the same price?Bought, not Brought0

So did you buy the main dealer car?Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0

I went into Evans halshaw to see what they can offer. the first thing i asked the sales person was about their price guarantee. The person told me that they normal beat quotes by about 200-300 quid. So i stayed to see what they could offer. Also the Toyota garage was 45mins whereas Evans Halshaw was local.
I was actually ready to go buy the celica that afternoon but with them keeping me there for two hrs i was unable to make it down to Toyota as it was a sunday. Have no time during the week days which was why i was ready to buy over the weekend. The car has now been sold at the toyota garage. But its not the end of the world, im sure another will come up. One things for sure, i wont be going Evans Halshaw for my next car.0 -

Apart from anything even with a £200 cut on price it would still have been a year older and higher mileage
As for a 45 min trip, its nothing
Your clearly a salesman's dream buyer
The price guarantee worked by you buying the car and then if you find the same car within 5 days then they refund you the difference. I doubt that would ever have happened.
The 45min wasnt a problem which was why i was ready to buy the car.
Salesman dream buyer????? eh?? can you expand?0 -
Salesman dream buyer????? eh?? can you expand?
I'm really not sure either, I'd expect if you were the dream buyer you'd have paid full price for the older more expensive car and not asked them to price match. You're not much of a dream buyer if you don't actually buy the carBought, not Brought0 -
Having a similar issue with Evans Halshaw in Newcastle.
Found a mondeo i liked on their in house database, the car was in scotland and needed to be shipped down. I sad I was interested and I had other cars to see so would give a deposit. For the next 3 days I was hounded by the sales guy every few hours until I eventually gave a deposit over the phone on credit card.
I was promised delivery on the friday - this came and went I called in on sat to be told the car hadnt arrived yet and was scheduled for monday.
Again monday came and went and I had to make the call again to be told tuesday at 2pm it would be there. Guess what no phone call by 4pm on tuesday, so I went looking for another car and found an Identical model 140 miles away in Wigan identical except it has 1000 miles less and is 2 months older However is £800 cheaper.
SO I ring up and tell them I want deposit back, to be told but weve gone through expense of getting car down - hardly my problem I say I have foudn a car and its cheaper. We have a price promise I was told - well Im waiting fo them to give me the new price and have been since 4pm yesterday, Ive made 2 calls today and still not got this NEW price. SO by 2PM I will be going to the garage and demanding my deposit back.
Ill let you know good or bad, but so far it seems once they have deposit its easier to contact lord lucan than the sales person.0 -
There are a few unfavourable threads about Evans Halshaw on MSE. My own experience (mentioned before) is that we bought a used car and on collection there was no MOT cert. It took over 3 months of unreturned calls, fobbing off, and 'it's in the post' to get an MOT out of them. They re-MOT'd it for free in the end after deciding they couldn't find the actual certificate - I now suspect it didn't have an MOT at all when we bought it. Car has been ok, but I wouldn't use them again.0

DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!
Magpie - you'll be lucky if you get your deposit back!
I was told by an obviously very unhappy employee that the price match is a load of £$%%^ basically! he said they use it just to make people THINK they're getting a good service when in reality your NEVER going to find a car EXACTLY the same if its second hand! especially as the small print states milage must be within a stupidly small range and they must have the same reg etc etc!
secondly i was going to buy a car from them when i experienced this... the car they let me test drive was twice the price and much newer than the one i wanted so i really DIDNT want to test drive it... I mean the one i wanted was 3 years older!
I luckily had my phone on me and found the other car was at an EH approx 10 miles away so i could easily have gone there but NOOOOOOO "we'll bring it to you" I can't remember how much they wanted to bring the car... but again the nice salesman said basically if i dont buy the car i wont get the money back...
you might think your covered because if the car is "different" from the picture and description you get your deposit...?? He told me that if the car is scratched down the side you'd still not get it back because that clause relates to the car being in working order...
so basically your buying a car unseen unless it doesnt start!
his manager was HORRIBLE! trying to force me to order this car... i said "i know where it is... i'll go see it for free!" he was like "yea but what if it isnt there??? what if its in london??? what if its been sold....??"
i promptly walked out and bought my car from an ACTUAL car dealership...0 -
Type 'Evans Halshaw complaints UK' in to google and you get loads of stories of, in my view, dodgy dealings. Arnold Clarke still seem to be the UK's most despised car dealer, but Evans Halshaw don't seem to have much of a reputation either.0

I too had trouble from Evans Halshaw, l contacted their Vauxhall dealership in Beverley, East Yorkshire to be told they had a Corsa in that had just been reduced by £500 to £2000 which l was going to buy for my daughter as her first car. My wife and l were told about buying insurance, servicing plans etc which took the car to over the original price of £2500, the sales manager also got involved when l declined all there plans but he agreed to sell the car to us for £2000 so we went for a test drive. Upon returning l had my credit card out ready to buy the vehicle when the manager came over and started saying the least he could sell it to us for was £2100? After wasting 3 hours of our time trying to buy the vehicle we just left and if people take my advice, never buy anything from Evans Halshaw. I eventually got a better deal on a Corsa from a small independant local dealer and quite frankly l will never even buy spares from Evans Halshaw. This must be the companies policy to do this to people which as far as l am concerned is fraudulant behaviour.0
