Cheapest way to unlock the Nokia 6630 (locked to Hutchinson 3G)

Hello. I recently signed up to a 12 month contract with 3G. I activated the contract just a few days before I went on holiday and didn't have time to really look at everything. I had bought a sim4travel simcard to use whilst on holiday but it was only when I got to Tanzania that I realised the card wouldn't work there as the phone was locked to the 3 network.

Now back in the UK the fact that the phone is locked doesn't really matter, but I still want to get it done so I can use the phone when I next go abroad. I asked 3 and they said they would do it for £250, a price which I am not willing to pay. I'm of course more than willing to pay reasonable costs up to £50. The main problem that I've discovered is that many of the coces that claim to work don't as this phone is a fairly new one and uses a different algorithm to generate the codes.

If anyone can help me as to where I can get this done, (I'm pretty sure it has to be done using a cable at the least) I'd be very grateful. I'm very wary of people claiming to do it as I've found out that there are very few that can actually do it again due to the newness of the phone.

Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hussein.

i was told 3 charge £150 which is bad enough - but £250!!!
they are the only people who can do it for you atm
dont keep trying codes as you wont be able to unlock it even if you get the correct code from them after 5 tries
  • If you do a search on this site I believe you will find someone who will unlock your fone for free.. other wise it's like 10 to 20 quid down the market

As posted by Browntoa at the start of the Unlocking Nokias thread

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO UNLOCK THE NOKIA 6630+6680+7710+9500+9300+6620 , the only way to get it unlocked is to pay the Network ! . Any site that claims to unlock these is lying !! . The only equipment available at this time repairs the software on the phone, it cannot unlock it ( info still correct 24/08/05 )

Thanks for that. Oh well, was worth a try. Just thought I'd let you know there was someone on eBay saying they could unlock the phone for £40. Obviously suspicious, I asked them whether they would be prepared to offer a refund it it turned out they couldn't unlock it. I was hoping if they were a scam they would be discouraged by my more 'legal' approach. Well they wrote back saying that was not a problem so I'm wondering whether to chance it or not. They have a fairly high feedback and nearly 100% positive.

Your thoughts? Oh and does anyone know how to get this forum to send e-mails notifying me of replies to threads? Some other forums that I'm registered with and that use the same forum software do this automatically.

Both Browntoa and drahsir who "run" the nokia unlocking thread on here are the experts and so I would wait until they find a method of unlocking the above phones.

The emails are no longer sent out regarding a reply on a thread via this forum due to the legalities of sending out a reply that is subsequently deleted for any reason.

As Edinburghlass said, i would wait until it can be done properly.

And "nearly 100% feedback " on ebay is not 100%, so they have done something wrong .

You would be sending a phone worth £150 to a stranger and paying them £40 for the privalige.

Can I just add that no one has posted anywhere that I read i.e. 3g forums that they have successfully had this phone unlocked nor the 6680 for that matter.

afaik the only person who has cracked the unlocking of these is "dejan". he is from serbia and is one of the better phone s/w crackers but you will have to find him yourself. he has not released the solution. ive also heard he only unlocks batches of 1000

Thanks guys, I'l hold off on it for the moment and unlock my 1100 instead (in fact i have to try a code i got via a code generating hotline for the 1100). At least i'll have one phone where i can my sim4travel card and the £30 won't go to waste.

    Cheers.
