I dont know, you tell me

From my quick calcs you have £370pm left over after rent and CT. You've not been paying it though so you should have quite a bit more.
Oops, apologies i see you're only getting £49pm DLA not £76.90 as ive worked out so subtract £28pm from that £370. Why are you not getting the full £76.90?
I can give you a list if you really want it?
I am not getting the full amount due to a 4K overpayment from IS 5 years ago!
I was getting married to my hubby and we didn't live together but he came over most days and he stayed at weekends, some horribe "EX" friend of mine told them we were living together, which we werent but they decided we were even though they went to his house, so i owe them 4K.
and my hubby get £71 per month not £76.90
and our CT is £149 per month
we have been in this situation for over 5 months, we have only missed one rent payment, and one ct payment, we dont go out, we dont use the car, we dont buy new clothes, we have to buy cheap food, this added to our mental states, does not add up for a good lifei n my book.
BUT
we have each other and that counts for everything, and we are happy with each other, just not our circumstancesIpoints : 10000+

Wasn't judging at all.
With a monthly income vs expenditure table, we as in us the readers of this thread can possibly help cut down on non neccessities.
I simply mentioned the child benefits as soon they will transpire and then they will be in trouble income wise. I would imagine the O.P would be aware of this.
I agree with you, im shocked that they do not receive full HB/CTB but i assume thats due to the hubby being in work not that long ago.0 -

Just a quick 1 on that, per month and per every 4 wks are totally different things, based over 12 months entitlement is £76.90 (Not 13 like the £71 suggests)
I would imagine the £149pm CT is based over 10 months and not the full 12 also?
I feel for you i really do and thats why ive said i too believe you should be in receipt of full HB/CTB.0 -
I was simply asking for some help with benefit entitlement
I have two degrees and 10 A levels & I am far from stupid and I feel like I am being judged and basically a scrounger for trying to get what I am entitled to, I worked all my life until my spinal injury and now I have trouble with mobility
My husband has a rare personality disorder which is very hard for him to live with, there is not alot known about Dsthymia, but it is called double depression and this is border line manic depression and schizophrenia, it is incurable because it is the way he is built,
We know what our daughter should be doing, but unless you have a moody lazy 17 year old that you have worked hard to make a sucess and they rebel against ouy I suggest you do not judge, I already feel like a failure where she is concerned but it is like banging your head against a brick wall with teenagers these days.
I do not want benefits but unfortunately life is crap and you have to deal with what it throws at you and we have been thrown these cards.Ipoints : 10000+

Your hubbies entitlement should go up soon, i believe there are 3 levels (Short/mid/long)
If your disabilities are serious enough then surely you should be getting better financial care, ie middle or higher rates + mobility allowances? Are you not going to fight against the doctors?
Are you not going to fight that they have deemed you low care? (Both of you)
Ref council tax, if you have a bill for £1514, that works out at £126pm (£1514/12)
Anyway all the best and i wish you a speedy recovery back to work, you're obviously well educated so i doubt you'll have a problem returning to work when you get better. Benefits for you hopefully only a short term measure

Hi Michele, I don't think I can really help much but I wanted to post to say I feel for your situation. You're clearly very distressed right now but I'm sure that there is a solution out there.
Dsthymia isn't well known by name but it is by nature. To be honest, you can give these kinds of depressive illnesses one of any number of names and they all amount to very similar things (excluding the bi-polar spectrum). Presumably what they're basically saying about your husband is that his depression is deep and unchanging and at a point where there seems to be no cure?
In which case, in your situation I would challenge his care allowance. If a psychiatrist has gone so far as to say that they don't think there's much more that can be done to improve his condition then perhaps there is a higher rate DLA to be claimed for him?
Also, if you've been turned down for IS because of your previous problem then I think you need to appeal the decision on the grounds of hardship. They can reclaim what you owe them yes but they can't do so at a rate that leaves you with no money to eat.
Have you tried the CAB? Because if they've not been much help then I'd suggest trying your local MP. I agree with dmg24 that there should be more you're entitled to and IS in particular.
In the meantime, if it helps at all, what about applying for a crisis loan to tide you over while you're dealing with this? I know the last thing you probably want is more debt but I just thought it was worth mentioning in case you have an emergency come up.0
