    Have you tried noting down monthly income vs monthly expenditure to see where all your money goes?

    You seem to be in receipt of quite a lot of benefits in the 1st place...

    IB x1
    DLA x2
    Housing benefit
    Council tax benefit
    Child tax credits
    Child benefit

    Have you added all this up, and then subtracted your outgoings?

    It may help you see what you're unnecessarily spending??

    Michele's family income is less than £500 a month. Their rent is £400 a month, and their council tax is £140 a month.

    Can you suggest how they manage on this income? :rolleyes:

    Sorry, I've made a mistake in the calculation - I have taken your husband's DLA to be per week. Do you both just get one lower rate component? If so, it will lower your entitlement considerably.

    Yep, you come under the same LHA area as Mansfield, so you would be entitled to £98.08 per week if on LHA (HB may be more or less than this, but should be vaguely the same).

    Is there definitely no other income coming in? Do you only have:

    IB (husband) £63.75 per week
    Child Tax Credits £49.00 per week
    Child Benefit £18.80 per week
    DLA (not counted for benefits purposes)

    (I'm not counting HB and CTB, as they are not counted as income when calculating other benefits)

    If the DLA amounts are monthly and not weekly, then you should be getting full HB and CTB, and IS of approx £70 a week.

    Yes we are both on low rate mobility I get less due to some old repayment
    there is definately no more income!

    Incapacity benefit (Short term rate) = £63.75 x 52 /12 = £276.25pm
    DLA (Lower) = £17.75 x 52 / 12 = £76.90pm
    DLA (Lower) = £17.75 x 52 / 12 = £76.90pm
    CTC = £49 x 52 /12 = £212.33pm
    CB (Assuming 1 child) = £18.80 x 52 /12 = £81.46pm
    HB £27 x 52 /12 = £117pm
    CTB = £56pm (£1514/12 = £126pm, supposed to pay £70pm so £56pm benefit)

    Total Income = £896.84pm

    Rent = £400pm
    CT = £126pm

    Total = £526pm
    Remainder = £370pm

    I agree they are not going to be able to afford to go to the maldives for a month but its a lot better than your estimation of sub £500 earnings suggests.

    I too agree that they should probably get full HB and CTB

    Their child income is soon to dissapear which will make things a hundred times harder. O.P...She needs to pay her way, any particular reason why she is not in education or employment??

    I've just manually checked the calculation, and I do think that you should be getting IS of approx £70 per week, and full Council Tax Benefit and Housing Benefit (up to the allowable amount).

    I would complete the forms for IS (you can apply online). Once they have assessed your claim, they will then inform your LA (who calculate your HB claim), and then (in theory!) they will calculate the HB claim correctly.

    Did you get the name of the person at IB who told you that you would not qualify for IS? You need to ask them to backdate your claim, on the grounds that you were misinformed. Having a name would definitely help your case.

    I dont know, you tell me:confused:

    From my quick calcs you have £370pm left over after rent and CT. You've not been paying it though so you should have quite a bit more.

    Oops, apologies i see you're only getting £49pm DLA not £76.90 as ive worked out so subtract £28pm from that £370. Why are you not getting the full £76.90?

    The OP does not see the HB or CTB, and it is not included for the purposes of calculating benefit entitlement (which is what this thread is about). Furthermore, she does not receive the full DLA rate.

    The OP needs help getting their correct benefit entitlement. They do not need to be told what their child should be doing, or that they should be able to manage on their current income.

    If you actually read the OP's post, she wants help and support, not judgment.
