Ok try these steps, during the boot up sequence, press the F8 key, this will give you some boot options,
•Safe Mode (SAFEBOOT_OPTION=Minimal): This option uses a minimal set of device drivers and services to start Windows.
Choose the above option and see if it loads windows
Extra safe mode boot how to information -
To use a Safe Boot option, follow these steps: 1.Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.2.Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.3.When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.0 -

Could I use a friends windows cd or does each cd relate only to each computer?

In theory each disc is locked to the install....however there are illegal ways of circumventing this but we shall not go into this...It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.0 -

If you cannot get a XP disc, another option is to get a free Distro of a Linux OS (Debian, SuSe or something else user friendly)
Install the Linux OS, you will find that everything that was possible on XP can be done with Linux but free!
Also this is a good way of checking if it is infact a software issue or hardware, if the Linux OS boots fine then you know your hardware is ok.It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.0 -
Can I ask if your computer is a Desktop or a Laptop?
This happened earlier this year to my PC and I was pulling my hair out till I remembered that a similar thing had happened previously ,,,,,,,, was a stuck key on my keyboard
Try borrowing a keyboard, totally turn off the PC, plug in in,,, try again
Obscure,,,,,,,, but worth a tryJune 28th 2008. The day I escaped :beer::beer:0 -

Hi, it's only me.
I have been rummaging about in my drawers for any disc's I may have overlooked! I have not found any that refer to windows installation but I have found 3 disc's that apply to 'product recovery cd/rom' for my computer.
Is this relevant to re-installing?
If windows was already installed into computer when first purchased, would a windows disc be given?
Sorry for being dim about all this although I have to say, with the help of many people in the forum I have learnt quite a lot :T Still a long way to go, I hear you say
