Credit for discharged Bankrupts

Just wanted to let you all know that I have had a letter to confirm I have been discharged early from bankruptcy on 06/06/08! I have sent off for my credit files so I can make sure the info is correct. I now want to try and build up my credit by getting a credit card and using it for petrol etc and then paying if off in full every month.
Any idea what banks I can apply to now?
Also I am wanting to get a savings account - again any ideas who to apply to?
Thanks for all your help and support on the boards.

you'll struggle to get a standard bank account for some time as the BR will stay on your credit file for 6yrs..even more with only being discharged a week ago & your already looking for credit...it all shows on your credit files.....i'd been discharged since Nov last year and the co-op wont even consider an account upgrade yet...some banks say at least 2yrs after discharge some say longer........savings accounts are much the same because they're credit checked you'll fail with the BR still on your credit files....although after some battling i've managed to open a sainsburys internet saver account thanks to another member posting here

as far as a credit card....the only one's you'll be able to look at are capital one and a Vanquish Card both with an apr of 39.9%....rebuilding your credit rating is just a matter of time i'm afraid..the sticky at the front of this forum telling you about credit file clean ups will help...apart from that not really much else you can do.We all die. Thanks for the reply.
The only reason I want a credit card is so I can get cheap petrol from Asda! lol They only have pay at pump and don't accept Visa Electron. So if I do get a credit card it will only be used to buy fuel and then I will pay it off in full by direct debit.
As for savings, I will just have to let the money build up in my bank account and try not to spend it! - Mind I never have any spare cash anyway......just wanted to try and put some money away for essential like car tax and MOT.0 -
Well saving wise try the sainsburys account.....was a bit of a !!!! up with me but opened it in the end.......as long as you pay the ammount off in full with either of those cards you should be ok....its just everything while the BR is showing interest wise will be pretty high (especially with the credit crunch as well being the way it is) have you ever thought about one of the pre-pay credit cards? one that you load up with cash to use for all aspects of shopping...only thing with them you dont have a credit limit/interest you only have what you've put on the cardWe all die. I did look at the pre pay credit cards but it's not worth it for me. I only wants a credit card so that I can purchase the cheap fuel.........also when stopping in hotels or going on holiday they ask for a credit card for the room or for car hire.
My boyfriend has been coming with me to fuel up at ASDA and he has used his card for me & then I pay him for the fuel! It would be nice to just have some financial independance.
Must say I feel so happy that it is all over now..........the amount of sleepless nights worrying about the bankruptcy and now I'm discharged. I know it will be a battle to get my credit rating up again, but to be honest I don't want credit. I have managed to pay for things as I go so will just continue this way.
Thanks again for your reply0 -
If it's only for use as you have stated, have you considered one of those pre-pay master cards?Glenn

Sorry if I seem a little thick here but have you thought about simply going to a cash point and drawing out enough to pay for your petrol, seems like a simple enough solution to me!0

im assuming means they dont take cash either Praxis99Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all ………….0 -

Oh well I've learn't something here, not encountered such a system where I fill up. Personally I wouldn't go near a credit card with a bargepole, but thats just how I feel, however a pre-pay seems like a good compromise for the OP that will get the job done without starting off down the credit trail again particularly given they have barely been discharged. While not wishing to go off on one It does amaze me the way some people are so keen to look again for credit the moment they are discharged, I realise the reason for it in this case but still.............0
