Savings A/C Post BR Discharge - Success!!

Hi everyone
I just wanted to let you know, I tried to open a Savings Account with the Co-Op who I have a Cashminder Account with. They did a credit check on me and said NO.
Judging by previous posts on the forum, it was not unexpected but worth a shot!
I hadn't ventured down the credit union road yet, but was going to investigate it further if I had no success.
After discussing this with a friend of mine who was discharged last year she told me she managed to get a "Sainsbury’s Internet Saver Account", very soon after. So I gave it a shot on Friday, I immediately had a confirmation e-mail with account details and also a letter from them on Saturday - it said amongst the other usual stuff –
“To comply with Money Laundering regulations we are required to verify your identity. This means we will in the first instance, attempt to electronically confirm your name and address”.
Now, I am assuming this may not have been by the means of a credit check or if it was they just didn't care about my BR as I have had this confirmation by e-mail today, Monday.
We are happy to confirm that the process to open your new Internet Saver account is now complete.
You can now use all the functions of the account.
· Start saving regularly, if you haven't already started
· Access your money at any time
· View and service your account online (provided you have completed registration for our Online Service)
All I am waiting to receive is the online activation code so I can register for the online service.
So, at the risk of sounding like I am advertising Sainsbury’s, if you are looking for a Savings Account, post discharge, then they may be worth considering, worked for me!
BTW, I was only discharged 15 days ago!

Thanks for this post, I too want to get a savings account up and running again - and this time watch my savings hopefully grow and grow!- and while I am going to give the Coop a go - whom I had a savings account with pre-br -I am no expecting much given the experience of others in trying to do so. If knocked back I'll certainly check this Sainsbury's account out0

Just a quick update, I got my activation code today, I had already transferred a small amount of money from my cashminder account on Monday to see if it worked and when I signed in, BINGO!, there it was sitting in my nice new shiny savings account, ready to earn a bit of interest!
So all in all, within a week I got a savings account up & running. Which was something I thought I was going to struggle to get.0 -
