Savings A/C Post BR Discharge - Success!!

Well, on Saturday I got the letters about activation & explaining the account opening procedure, & today I've had a letter asking me to send 2 items to verifying my address. Still haven't had a request to supply my BR discharge notice, but I think I might send it anyway as it could save time in the long run. :rolleyes:BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

I had an interesting call with them earlier.. had applied for a savings account (just on the off chance even though i'm undischarged).
Received the letter asking for my discharge certificate as per the money laundering regs, so phoned them and said I wasn't discharged and there was nothing in their T&C's regarding BR's.
The lady said all I needed to do was send in a my bankruptcy certificate (form with the court stamp on it),
Reason being... it flagged me up as being bankrupt so they need to confirm I am, she explained it by saying if I was a girl
 and got married then my name would have changed and they would have wanted to see my marriage certificate, this is exactly the same, as it has flagged me up as BR they want to see my BR certificate to prove I am who I say I am.
No idea if i'll get the account (probably not!) but the lady I spoke to didn't seem to think there'd be any problem .. will keep you posted

I applied when I was undischarged, probably only a few months after going BR. They turned me down immediately & said it was because I was undischarged. I'd forgotten about re-replying until I saw this thread.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

I doubt i'll get it but thought it was interesting that the lady I spoke to seemed to think it'd be fine.
As it happens it looks like my Lloyds current and savings accounts are still active so might be able to use them anyway!:hello:Save a little money each month and at the end of the year you’ll be surprised at how little you have.An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind0 -
Had another look at the letters this morning. They will only accept statements that are within the last 3 months, the documents must have your first name as well as your last name on them & they will not accept more than one document from the same organisation. Utility companies try to get you to sign up for gas & electricity from them, which I did, so that means I can only include a letter for my gas or my electricity, but not both. Loads of companies also go for paperless billing, so if it's going to cost me money to get a one-off paper statement I won't be happy. Also, I've only just noticed that my letters have my initial & surname not my full first name, & when I rang a company yesterday to get it changed they said it would take up to 10 days to do that & send a statement to confirm.wherediditallgo wrote: »Well, on Saturday I got the letters about activation & explaining the account opening procedure, & today I've had a letter asking me to send 2 items to verifying my address. I rang Sainsbury's to ask if they really had to have the original documents, as I wasn't too keen to send my passport. They told me if I didn't want to send the original, I could get certified copies - those are copies signed by someone professional like a lawyer or minister of religion (who also have to provide their contact details & details of their parish), so they'd probably cost money. I'm going to wait for the amended account information to arrive then send it - if that's still not good enough, then it's just too bad. At the rate Sainsbury's are going, I won't be bothering with the account - I only want to save a few pounds a month, but the way they're carrying on anyone would think I was trying to stash away the equivalent of the Civil List. :mad:BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

30th May 2008........another paying in book arrived in the post this morning takes the total now to six! along with another letter
The last letter asked if I could send a "copy" of my discharge cert to allow the opening of the account to continue (this account was opened without any hassles then frozen when I tried to access)....the letter today says they have received my "copy" but this is not good enough could I send the original copy of my discharge to allow the account to continue....I contacted the call centre AGAIN and as usual nobody knows whats happening but they would put me through to someone who would definatley help once & for all...they put me through to someone who deals in motor insurange  after being given the run around & explained my story again to be told "sorry you need the orig discharge cert" I cant afford to pay that ammount of cash to the operator replies "surley you managed to sneak some spare cash away whilst bankrupt" I was bloomin livid!! they record all calls so they tell me so i've lodged an official complaint with the department so watch this space
far as a savings account goes sainsburys can shove it....i'm only after saving a £5 or so a month for gods sake.....its just not worth the hassle...back to trusty old tin in the wardrobe......damn my hiding place is out now

Sorry to see that some here seem to be having trouble getting this account set up and are been given an annoying 'runaround' by Sainbury's in the process. While I don't know what Sainsbury's check it does seem rather arbitrary as daiblobear commented in a earlier post as to whether the process goes smoothly - as mine has appeared to do or doesn't.
Anyway phinicandamy and WDIAG I hope that if you choose to persist you gets things sorted out in the near future.0 -

I think bank officials can certify copies too, usually -when working for a bank I was often asked to this, such as certifying a copy of a passport - mostly these were being used internally but not always. It didn't cost a penny.0
