o2 contact/Nokia n80 Wap auto connect!!

Hi folks,

anyone got an email contact for o2 please?

filled in there online form with brief details of my problem and it said 'Too long, ask a question' !!!

so heres my issue, it works in 2 kind of parts..

1 being a problem with nokia n80 settings(seems a common prob from research)

2 me getting my free wap allowance on o2.

ok so heres the basics, got the nokia n80 off my sister who decided to get herself a new phone. since obtaining the phone i deleted all gallery and other previous added stuff so was back to clean phone and clean memory, deleted a few crappy apps that i didnt want.

then turned all Wap connection off so that it 'Always asks' for a connection to wap meaning i have to acknowledge the connection before it will be allowed, ive done on the email, wap, internet, services etc. turned them all off, even turned 3g off so that im only on GSM network.

every 5 10 minutes the phone will connect to wap services without my knowledge and rinse all my credit, i have no knowledge of this until all my credit has gone and i get a text saying 'You need 17p to connect to wap services' ok i got £7.69 this morning when i arrived at alton towers.

by 5pm im getting text saying 'you need 17p to.........'

no internet page loads up it just stays on the main screen of the phone but can see the Wap connection icon flicking on every 5 - 10 - 15 minutes meaning now im spammed hundreds of texts a day say , yes you guessed it 'you need 17p to........'!!!!!

i dare not top up anymore money as it will take all my credit, i really only use my phone to stay in contact with my daughter so i know she is safe, i.e. at alton towers if id of lost her i would of called her mobile and we meet safely and very quickly again saving any heartache and a loss of a day hunting a lost child.

i more annoyed that this has taken my right away on the one day i may of needed it to be able ensure my families safety. but now i cant even do that.

ive sent a mail to info@o2.co.uk and hopefully someone will respond positively to this.

ok heres the deal, o2 give so much free wap to me per month as my PAYG tarriff that im sure your all aware of and of course the 300 texts. ive never used over the 300 texts and now never ever use wap services. so you could say i dont abuse what o2 offer me. so why has my credit been taken if im a free wap connection?

o2 will say its a problem with the phone and quite rightly that maybe the fact which i will take up at the nokia shop tomorrow unless someone knows how to sort this nokia issue out.

my gripe with o2 is the credit taken for a service i dont use and which should be free upto a certain usage. after the £7 gone from credit in 7hours today i feel ringing there 50p a minute helpline would 1-help them rinse more of my money away for something they offer for free and 2-!!!! me off that little bit more

:confused::confused:

how can i boil that down to a 1 sentence question? lol

so if you got CS email possibly or even if you know the trick to solving this nokia n80 auto connect situation even thought hey are all switched OFF i would very much appreciate it.

thanks

  • since writing the above thread (10 minutes) ive had 3 more connection attempts, each of them would of cost me 17p each plus to time it is connected for!!

out of £10 ive made probably less than 10mins worth of calls!!
  • and another 2 more attempts!!

    this is ridiculous.
  • Ok first off I know how annoying this is as its happened to me before, not my phone doing it but me accidently pressing the connection button it just drained my credit.
My friend who downloaded games ect off certain sites just kept getting his credit drained so he just changed his sim card, maybe you could try this as your on PAYG im assuming (someone correct me if im wrong) if you just get rid of your old sim card they cant charge you anymore. Also like you said it might be to do with your phone so you might be better off getting a free sim card that sometimes come on offer to try this out in your phone to see if its a fault with the provider or the phone itself.

ive had this sim/number for years. this is only an issue since obtaining this phone.

googling brings up the issue with quite a few users but none of them have answers, just state that the n80 is known for connecting itself even its set-up not to.

new firmware possibly? nothing on the nokia site about this and new phone so unsure of how NOT to muck it at present. am pretty phone-savvy but this phone needs a degree to operate it!!

its a definate n80 settings issue(or new user lack of knowledge issue)

    thanks for swift reply though.

EDIT: also had keylock on all day so cant accidently hit 2 (just had another attempt now!!) buttons consectively and then accidently hit wap. and also im typing here with my phone in front of me. it has connected 6/7 times since i started this thread already.

it really does do it, randomly and of its own accord.
  • That is a strange one.I have read that some newer phones can get viruses,im not saying that one has but I guess its one thing to keep in mind just in case.

Obviously one thing to be thankful for is that your not on a contract, can you imagine the bill!!!

Is there anyway to put a passwor on the access to the internet on your phone as one of my old phones used to have this, might just be something to try out.

no password option just the turn all connections to 'Always ask' option.

ive found an email for CS at o2 and have queried the charges and have asked for full details, ip, www, land address etc of who/what is connecting, have also asked for full contact details of a data-protection request should that be the route i decide to go down if they dont play ball.
  • ok, sat their for a few minutes staring at the screen with connection manager open and its 'o2 prepay wap' that is connecting. having read that orange refunded their customers as they were getting contract bills over £300 a month so hopefully o2 will refund me possibly.

also found a password mode like you said luis and activated a password of my own. will now see what happens in next 5/10mins.

    Anything happened?

With it being a PAYG phone that your on im guessing it might be a bit different to the contracts that were refunded mainly due to them probably not knowing what kind of bills they were racking up! At least you can check your balence;) (this is why I prefer PAYG!) I have noticed 'some' CS teams to put them first than the PAYG users. I was offered a £2 refund for calls that kept cutting off......It cost me nearly that to ring CS!!

  • so much for the password protection. totally over rides it and still tries to connect.

:rotfl: who do i laugh at? myself, o2 or nokia? maybe all 3 right now.

right now im thinking a 10lb lump hammer would solve this whole debacle :D

Have you tired clearing the cache/history/bookmarks? settings should be hidden in there somewhere. Maybe set your internet settings on a differnt one rather than on nothing?? erm...... grab a mallet and bash away?

If I was you personally (me being a paranoid freak) then id get a new phone with a new sim and just start over! Much easier and better piece of mind, plus get one without software which can get corrupted (well some can't!) and jobs a good un.....I should really write a paranoids handbook!!
