Yes they can do it. Their current traffic management means from 10pm-9am (i think) you have no download restrictions.0

If you signed up 3 years ago then it was most likely during the time that NTL had a 30GB (or even 3GB depending on the package) Cap on broadband although this wasn't strictly enforced like the traffic management is. So if anything you can download more now than you could with the terms and conditions when you signed up.0

VM have a fair usage policy which means if you are a heavy downloader it can impact on other peoples connection in your area and if VM decide you are doing this then they can restrict you but they were going to send letters otu detailing the limits for certain periods of the dayNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

The AMOUNT of data you can download is (thoeretically) unlimited . The traffic management system means your speed gets cut if you over your limit . You can still surf/download etc , just at a lower speed for 5 hours .0

Can they do this, Im sure i signed up with no download limits :mad:After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?0 -
If it is a change to what you signed up to, you can get out of the contract without penalty, if that helps.
However do watch out, although there would be no penalty from Virgin there may be hidden cost.
As I assume you are on cable Virgin you would then need another phone land line, which would be connected via the likes of Openreach, Talk Talk, BT etc
The charge for this is over £100, and locked into a contract for maybe 12 months or moreEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Sorry to resurrect but we had the letter re being heavy downloaders and now the internet just cuts out at random times of day and night which is a real pain in the you-know-what since DH works from home. Has anyone successfully complained? Would upgrading the BB package help? We can't keep going the way we are but we're tied to a contract till November....0

It cutting out will be a fault, so you can call them and fix it. They just reduce the speed if you download to much not cut you off. If you do upgrade to another package then you get more download allowance and the speed it is reduced to if you go over is higher.0

I know I need to get it together to call them. Unfortunately because we have applemac and a wireless internet connection they refuse to do anything since they say they don't support wireless networks. The implication is that it's our network to blame, not their service. I'm not sure how to get around this double bind - any ideas?
Our on demand is also patchy at best, crashes at least twice a week and the box needs reset (ie turned off at the mains) which is a real pain for us since the switch is right behind the tv and reaching it upsets the leads for the sound system. Sorry once I get started about Virgin's servicse I can't stop....0 -
They normally like you to plug the computer directly into the modem and then see if the problem still happens. Plus when you do this they can send a signal from their end to check the connection, I don't know why this isn't possible with a router. I used to always have this problem with them whenever there was a fault as I only had a desktop at the time, so moving it around was a big hassle. Although I don't know if they can send their signal down to Macs, I have one myself but I haven't had to ring them about the broadband since I got it.
If you are having a problem with the On Demand as well it could be a problem with too weak a signal which can affect the broadband as well. We used to have a problem with On Demand and the picture cutting out on standard channels sometime as well, then we got a V+ box installed and we told the installer about it at the time and he said it was likely to be due to the signal being too low so he boosted it for us and its been fine since although this could just be due to the fact the V+ is a better box. We hadn't had any problems with the broadband though, but I know my cousin did and that was down to a signal problem which they sorted.
If you can get an technician to come out then its likely they will be able to solve the problem. Although getting one is not easy especially if you get through to the Indian call centre. You might be better off telling them about the problem with the TV and hoping you can get an technician that way and then when the technician turns up say you are having problems with the broadband as well.0
