Take a look at http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php and search for "ISP". It listed a few numbers with various ISP's.0 -

How?
Now that I am set up with broadband VOIP at home the landline is redundant. Obviously have to pay BT for it though. For quite some time I have been thinking of what use I can put the landline to.
Set up dial in access to your PC via your geographical number and access your broadband connection. You will need an old style modem (couple of quid) and obviously the maximum speed will only be 56K (at best).
With your mobile inclusive minutes (and laptop) you can then surf for free in the pub, car, beach etc. If you have the corrct mobile provider you can use 1899.com to pay just 3p to surf for hours if you have used all your inclusive minutes.
You could also sell the internet connection to friends and family that are still paying £10 per month for dial up access. If they too use 1899.com it would cost just 3p per day (£1/month) to use your private ISP. You could even share with friends e.g. friend A has access during even hours of the day & night and friend B during odd hours etc.
wow ! this is the right place and you are the right person i have been looking for to give me such idea. Please can you help me :
1. i have a laptop and i used to access the internet from my mobiles IrDA (to dial into a dial up) which cost me 0.11p/minute.
2. i have an account with 1899
3. i am with vodafone, 1000 mins anytime...
4. my mobile had bluetooth, Irda + my laptop has Irda
5. i have a PCMCIA card moden which taken a sim card and the ISP can be dialled from there too
please tell me some more about this...i too am looking for an ISP with a 01.. or 02.. number...pls help mate...its years now i have been looking for such a chance...

I have tried 'them all', they don't work with 1899.com. Unless YOU have found one that does. Before you buy Google Nest or British Gas Hive check out ESPproMon the Android and iOS Smartphone app that helps you build the same system from just £30.0 -
No, I haven't a need to use them. I would expect those numbers would be of use for those that just wish to use their mobile minutes though.0

We have a wireless network set up here, sharing a broadband connection.....
Ask your daughter to check if calls to 0844/0845 numbers would be free as part of her monthly free minutes. With O2, these numbers are counted as part of the anytime minutes, so don't cost any extra. If they are free with Orange, she can sign up to a PAYG ISP using an 0844/0845 code (there are many ISPs that use these codes). She could then use her mobile to access the net for free using her mobile. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

The fact that you will be paying for and will not have the use of your PSTN line (tied up with inbound dial-up connections) means that there is a cost of £10.50 a month to you ?
I appreciate you can use VoIP but it is still a cost incurred and I suspect that dial-up to a proper ISP is less hassle in the long run.
Thanks

Gavin,
The £10.50 is incurred anyway i.e. it's needed to obtain ADSL (yes even more cost). But the line is totally UNUSED if I don't allow my father-in-law to dial in and use my internet connection. Makes sense, no?Before you buy Google Nest or British Gas Hive check out ESPproMon the Android and iOS Smartphone app that helps you build the same system from just £30.0 -
nearlyrich wrote:In answer to your questions No she has no phone access at all in halls ( she can get online in the library so she isn't totally cut off but she is mssing MSN etc) I have heard of 1899 from reading these boards but we use talk talk and we only spend about a fiver per month on the landline.
Get your daughter to use the following site if she wants access to MSN at uni:
http://webmessenger.msn.com/
Its a web based version of MSN messenger. does the same job, but on an internet site.0
