well further to my above post, i asked the bidder to pay for the item, as they said they were willing to although didn't want it, and i now have this reply:

"is there any chance of mutually closing the transaction as i honestly do not require the item? it
will be highly understood and appreciated. i will leave you positive feedback should we close the
transaction. let me know asap thanks"

arrrgghh. so i will reply again that i want them to pay, but can see this going around in circles.

In the last month my non paying bidders have increased. It has to be because they know that the seller cannot leave a negative for them anymore.

Immediate payment is fine but I offer combined postage discounts on multiple purchases which they cannot avail themselves of if I force immediate payment. Also, there are some people who still like to pay by cheque (which is nice as it save Paypal fees).

I hope this issue will bottom out once those non paying bidders realise that whilst they cannot get a negative they can get a strike which is more damaging to them.

i also have another non paying bidder at the moment from 2 weeks ago. someone with 0 feedback. they emailed to ask what offer i accept, said they would send postal orders and asked if i could delay sending until they were back from their holiday. i said this was fine, accepted their offer and not heard a thing from them since! looks like they will be getting a strike tomorrow.

If they really don't want it then why not ask them to pay for the item but not the postage and you'll dispose of it yourself.
They win because they don't have to pay out as much.
You win because you can then sell the item again if you want to or keep it or take it to the charity shop, etc.

the item was £100 so don't think they would be happy paying that for nothing.

I wouldn't bother. If you force them to buy it you'll more than likely end up with 'item not received' so would have to send securely, (but I guess you would at this price anyway), 'item not as described', 'item broken/not working etc'. It's not like it's only a couple of pounds. Anything to get their money back. As they seem reasonably friendly and polite i'd do a mutual and relist it.

it would be sent special delivery if they do pay for it. i certainly won't be doing a mutual though. I don't see why they should get away with making an offer on my buy it now or best offer listing and then not contacting me for a week until after i started a dispute to tell me they bought it by mistake! if they don't pay they will be getting a strike.

well i have had another message in reply to me asking them to make payment:

"why is this becoming so difficult? i dont need the item as i placed the bid by mistake which was mentioned earlier. i am asking you nicely to close the transaction and you are making life difficult. i also stated i would leave you positive feedback. i have 100% feedback and no strikes on my account. i have never been in this situation and it would be a pleasure if you could close the transaction.this would be much appreciated. i am willing to pay for the advertisment fee's. be helpful please"

she did not bid by mistake, she made an offer on an item which i accepted. not sure how you can make an offer by mistake, more like she changed her mind. i no longer want to sell this item to her, i want to give her a strike and to get my fvf back from ebay but it appears that she is trying to bribe me to do a mutual by offering to pay my fees and leave me positive feedback. i wonder if this means i will get negative if i give them a strike? and if this happens can i get it removed? as i have done nothing wrong.
