    Hi

Am I doing something wrong because when I try to use the energylinx calculator it just comes back with

"Could not find a matching supplier, tariff, and payment type in our database for your location."

I've tried ticking different boxes, putting postcode in different ways, but can't get it to work.

    Any ideas?

  • Hello Onzey, I had problems yesterday when I used London standard tariff as existing supplier but when I entered another supplier I got a result. It may be worth trying to find out where the problem is, alternatively e-mail energylinx. On the two occasions I contacted them I received a reply the same day. (not weekends)

    Thanks Lewis.

In my case it seems to be Seeboard Energy- Economy 7 it doesn't like, in the current supplier slot. I just tried it with Seeboard Energy Standard and it gave a result. (I put Economy 7 in the "what kind of meter slot")

Not sure if this is a "correct" result though. I get different results to EnergyHelpline even for same suppliers
  • Onzey, the problem is that some comparison sites are quicker to update than others and they have different option boxes. I have not checked today but yesterday both energylinx and energy helpline gave the same figures for some suppliers and different ones for others. It is not always clear if the figure you are quoted is the current one or the one that you will be paying by the time you become a customer (1-2 months). Find the ones that appear to be best for you and check out their tariffs and when they were last updated. Personally I find energylinx the easiest to use, it does not "blink" when you input info and you don't have so many boxes to fill in.

I've been trying to check out any savings to be had for my 83 year old mum on her gas & elec. I have used most of the comparison services available.

Energyhelpline put Telecom+ Low User tariff for a duel fuel package as tops, but I could not switch via their web site.

No other comparison service has listed this supplier or tariff, and I am getting wildly different comparisons.

I wanted to telephone Telecom+ to check that the Low User duel fuel price I got via energyhelpline was correct, but am unable to find a number. Has anybody got it, please?

    Hi VJG

Be aware that Telecom+ prices go up tomorrow.

They may still work out to be the cheapest though.

Thanks for the reminder, lisyloo. I'll check again tomorrow.

But I still feel like I've been going round in circles trying to get to the best deal. Martin rated this as 'easy' and a 10 minute excercise in The Money Diet, but maybe I'm looking too deep.

    Cheers

One of the problems that you are facing at the moment is that a while ago there were increases in wholesale prices of gas and electricity.

The utility companies have taken different amounts of time to pass on the increases.
This makes it quite confusing when doing comparisons.
You may even get different results from different sites, if some are working on the new prices and others on old prices.

You should not be getting "widly" different comparisons though.

If in doubt then the best way to compare is to do the calculation yourself based on the usage which is OK as long as you're alright at Maths.

    Hi VJG

T+ price increases (from April 1st) are variable for low user electricity (increases are up to 9%) - depends which region you are in - if you let me know which it is I'll gladly let you know the new price.

As far as gas goes, then the low user price is being increased nationally by around 6.8% (from 1.3965 per unit to 1.491p including VAT)
