Hi Folks,

Well the new iPhone comes out next month and gadget boy here just has to have one! It was one of the treats I promised myself whilst I was a DFW, and now I'm debt free (Yay!!!! :j:j:j) I deserve it :D !

I am currently in a one year orange contract that I started late October, this was a £35 a month contract with a £10 loyalty credit every month (hence I was paying £25 per month).

I need to get the PAC so I can transfer my number across, so bearing this in mind :

What would be the best way to get the PAC?
  1. phone orange and pay up the whole contract ? Looking at 35*3 = 105
  2. Get the PAc and continue to pay the contract for the remaining three months? If I could do this then could I continue to claim the £10 loyalty discount?
  3. Any other suggestions?
Thanks for any and all help

They're unlikely to give you a PAC until you cough up. You might be entitled to the loyalty discount, though - I'd phone them and ask. But you might want to leave it for a few weeks since the new iPhone isn't out for a month yet...

It's only 30 days away.....!!!!!! If I go to bed early every day it will feel like half that :rotfl:

I was under the impression that a PAC request is valid for 30 days so wanna get a plan of Action together for next week.

That's true, I guess. And actually thinking about it Orange are slow to send you the PAC - they insist on posting it to you second class (and harass you to stay in the meantime)

Or you could just buy the iPhone2 on PAYG and unlock it to put your old Orange SIM in it.

I'm using iPhone1 on Orange without any problems.

    1. iPhone 3G will probably be substantially more expensive on PAYG.
    2. A lot of the point of the iPhone is the data connectivity, and Orange's data plans are terrible.

    Very Valid points..

However the overall cost of the iphone contract is 800 quid (159 + (18*35)) so if orange offered me , say 250 mins, 250 texts and unlimited browsing for pittance then i may go down the payg road if the overall cost showed a major saving.

But it would have to be a damn good deal to make me what to miss the free wifi offers that O2 are throwing in....

But the plan on the £30pm is terrible, something like 75 mins and 100 texts.

You need to calculate the total cost to end your contract early (which will be around £105) then you need to add on the cost of the iPhone (£99 for 8GB and £159 for 16GB - also depending on plan), plus the new o2 contract min of £540.

So to end Orange and move to £30pm 8GB iPhone on o2 would cost around £750 - now if Orange can give you a good contract on £25pm then you would be the same as o2 as the PAYG iPhone is rumoured to be £269 for 8GB.

You can haggle alot when you're contract runs out. Orange offered me 1400 mins, 500 texts, unlimited data, Nokia N95 8GB Black for £35pm and the N95 is on ebay for £200 min, so that is saving you £10pm min.

Remember that you will get a new phone when you upgrade to Orange, so selling that and putting that money towards the new iPhone may be better than going to o2 - then again, it may not. You just need to do all possible calculations and work out which is best.

The 3G iPhone will be available on a new £30 a month contract and it comes with the "unlimited" data use.

On that tariff, the 8GB handset will cost £99 and the 16GB handset will cost £159.

That would make the total cost, over 18 months, £639 for the 8 gig and £699 for the 16 gig.

A discount will probably be available via Quidco.

Yeah but with 75 minutes and 125 texts.. I mean come on.. the 35 quid contract is realistically the cheapest option for me.. which would be 159 + (18*35) = 159 + 630 = 789 quid.

QuidCo relies on a sale being made over the internet, the iphone (for the release date at least) needs to be activated in store.. So not too sure there will be a quidco offering

    I could be wrong though.....

    I hear you!

What's the best phone to sell on ebay these days? Bar the iphone of course! N95 8Gb still?

Given that you've got to pay Orange anyway, you might as well use the included minutes for the rest of the contract.

And if you can wait until October, perhaps the iPhone offers will improve after the initial rush, and effectively you could save £200 or so. If not, why not have 2 contract for this 4 months?
