Love this idea! I bought my OH a desk calendar last Xmas where each page could be made into different paper areoplanes. He and everyone else in his office thought this was a great gift, maybe I could do a jar of facts so they can all learn a new thing each day :D

Hi Rainmac - could I ask where you got the desk calendar - my OH would love this

    thanks

    Hi Gilly

I'm sure I got it from play.com and have just had a look and can find this one http://www.play.com/Books/Calendars/4-/6040760/Easy-Origami-2009-Block-Calendar/Product.html but not an origami plane one. They probably don't have a good idea of calendars they are going to have yet as it's only us chaps on here who are organising Xmas in August!

Just thought, the other place it may have been from is Amazon, again no sign of it on their site yet for 2009.

  • Ok, this is my first post in this board. Some great ideas that I will steal as well :)

I have done cookie jar ingredients with family before and they did not go down well (very materialistic - OH's family that is - his sis call us up front to remind us of her birthday yet she forgot all 4 of my DD birthdays!!!!)

Anyway, here is an idea of my own. I have don this for my DH soon after we were married and even more broke than now

I have sat at the computer and made a gift voucher book. I found nice clipart that was suitable for the gift on particular voucher and then wrote what voucher was for. These included:
meal of choice for just two of us
an hour uninterrupted on the computer
    back massage
peace to watch formula one race
    1 hoovering (his job otherwise)
and some that are no business of yours :p

At the end I added terms and conditions - such as expiry date (next Christmas when he can get new voucher book!), at least 24 hours notice for meal of choice so I can get ingredients (he loves my steak pie!), massage one or hoovering one not redeemable when baby needs mom, etc...
I have then printed them out, cut them to size and stapled together than glued some ribbon over the staples. They were a hit!!!

I am guessing you can get something like that done for a teenager as well, with stuff like late pick up from the town after party, one pick up of dirty laundry in the room, one uninterrupted Sunday lie-in...

They can be made quite funny and produce lots of laugh on Christmas morning.

marsupial - excellent idea ! For teenagers that would be brilliant and the lad we've got at the moment is 18 at the end of august.........he'd just love a voucher that let him off tidying his room, washing up (not that he does much of that) and me nagging................lol
How did you make the book ? I've printed off vouchers before but only as individuals

I have done it in Word. I have just used Insert Table feature and set the size of each cell. It was one column and as many lines as you want to make vouchers. If you leave the gridlines in, you can cut them out nicely as well. I think I had about 4 or so per A4 page. I am trying to see if I can find the old template. We did save the contents of old hard drive, but not sure where

The voucher book is a genius idea! I'm going to make a book for my OH, he's been put on the strictest of strict diets by his rugby club so all the usual cakes and biccy's I make as gifts aren't an option this year. I was at a loss as to what to make him but now I know! :j

    Thanks!!
