A couple of ideas for home-made gifts for a teenage grandson - if you're reasonably handy with a sewing machine - might be to find a couple of groovy-looking T-shirts in a charity shop and turn them into pillows for him to lounge around on:

Or make a wall hanging with a fabric back and clear plastic pockets sewn on the front, hanging from a length of wooden dowelling, to store his CD collection in. Or don't teenagers have many CDs any more? All their music is probably just downloaded straight to their iPods these days!

Instructions here, but no photo : http://www.essortment.com/hobbies/makehangingcd_sksb.htm

Thanks for that you could always stich up the neck and sleeves and stuff then sew bottom up if no good with zips etc

Reminds me when i was younger mum made me a school bag rom an old pair jeans

She cut them into hot pant style shorts then sewed the leg holes shut used a bit of leg to make a strap and a flap that attached to the waistband

I loved it and so did my mates

sethsgran - someone on Shabby Chic thread on OS Board had some 'handbag pegs' and showed a photo. It's just a few pegs fixed onto a piece f wood or mdf with some handbag motifs stuck on, the idea being that its somewhere to hang bags up. I found some mdf when we were having a clear out so thought I (with OH's help) could make some for grandaughter.

CJ - thanks for the link. I don't have a sewing machine in working order (really must get that sorted) so anything I do has do be by hand..... which is ok for some things but not others.

I'm trying to make the twins pressies match up somehow so they get similar type things.........to avoid any arguments..........lol

Oh anyone got any bright ideas what I can use an empty twix tube for ? I think I asked about this just after Christmas. It's still sitting there waiting...................lol I've got some paper to cover it.........just need some 'novel' idea about what to put in it..............????

I rather like the idea of this "Socks Reunited" board - it's just a piece of board or MDF with some pegs glued onto it so will be much cheaper to make than the £18 it's being sold for. You could make a little template to cut socks out of card and decorate them (I've actually got a Sizzix die for a christmas stocking which looks a similar size, so I'll be using that).

Hi Mary, could the twix tube be used as a small vase? You could make some card/MDF flowers and decorate them, pop them onto thin poles and put in vase. Or if tube isn't very wide could you do this but with one flower? Would that work  Only got this idea in my head after seeing Melissa's post about this lovely item... http://www.alteredelement.co.uk/epages/es108190.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es108190_es119921283844/Products/15007/SubProducts/15007-0005. The site says this item is out of stock, I have a sneaky feeling Melissa cleared the stock out :rotfl:

CJ - love the 'sock board'..............get the feeling I'd need a bigger one than that for teenage grandson but its a great idea. Might give it a go.

rainmac - love the flowers but not sure OH would be able to cut the shapes out nice enough and as its a very 'tight budget' christmas I don't want to buy anything.
It is quite a tall tube, complete with lid .........maybe I could create a 'lucky dip' for grandson and fill it with odds and sods ?

How about cutting the flowers from cardboard (old cereal packets??) and then painting them. Add a button to the centre. There are probably templates and instructions on t'internet somewhere for fixing them to stems and making a nice bouquet out of them.
