I've joined freecycle and there's been nothing like that. Mind you.......have to confess to still having two broken sewing machines in the cupboard under the stairs. Ones an electric one and ones an old hand singer.................tried finding someone to repair them but its the devil of a job............its knowing someone who knows someone -and I don't..............lol

Mary if a machine is something you would use join upto your local freecycle there are always people giving away machines and material/crafty stuff on there ... or at least there is on mine :)

On our freecycle recently a lady asked for a overlock machine ...............i thought cheeky mare

3 days later she got one and a sewing machine too!!!!

I find i do better with wanteds on freecycle theres so much competition on the offers

  • Hi,
This thread is brilliant and Ive already made some flannel cakes and reindeers from it.I melted down a lovely smelling candle into a fruit mould to make small wax fruits to go onthe top of the flannels but really wanted to make small soaps in the mould. Does any1 know how I can melt a bar of soap down to pour into the moulds please? I have tried over a pan of boiling water-didnt work so tried to melt in the microwave and it just exploded into a mass of gunge lol.
At the moment I have also used winnie the pooh cake decorations and small flowers as well for the top of the cakes. I received my cake cases from hong kong yesterday which took about a week. Dont know how to upload pictures yet so when I do I will post a picture.
Thanks for such a great thread and in advance of one of you clever talented peeps giving me some advice about the soap. xxxxxx

I'm amazed sometimes at what gets offered - but every time I go after it someone else gets it !
I've got rid of things like plastic plant pots and wine bottles.........but that was on the don't dump that site.........put them on and more or less gave up then I had two people, one after the other.
Got a slow cooker off there once but it was so small, think it would even have been too small for single person so I gave that to ex foster girls sister who does a lot of boot fairs. Couldn''t refuse it,the lady was so nice and gave OH a cup of tea. ex foster girls sister has since given us a family size slow cooker in return.
Have to keep my eye open for sewing machine or put a 'wanted' on site

My old freecycle was fantastic, pretty much anything you wanted someone would have for you ... I put all of the childrens garden toys trampoline, sandpit, slides etc on there when I moved knowing i wouldnt have the space in the van.

however since being up here anything I offer gets snatched up but if I politely reply to an offered post it is ignored. Sometimes I am probably the first to reply as I am always near the pc. I gave up putting wanted posts on there now and very rarely bother with frecycle.

if i find a good retro sweet site i shall let you all know[/quote]

    Hi Sammikaye

Think I'm hot on your and MrsM's tail here!

A good retro sweet site (ie lots of choice) is Aquarterof.co.uk but at a local shopping centre, Peak Village they have a shop stocked with Stockleys sweets with loads of northern delicacies ie coltsfoot rock, Uncle Joe's Mint Balls (they keep you aglow) bull's eyes and
    SWIZZELS
    and loads more

I haven't seen any actual pictures and haven't done one myself yet but I've got some old sandwich spread jars and I'm going to fill them with the items mentioned on the list of saying, pop in the list, stick some kind of label on the outside, tie a ribbon round it and thats it really.(well thats going to be my version. You could use a box if you wanted to.
The bits and pieces inside can be as many or as few as you want depending on who its for.
    Hope this helps

Oh just to add........if you look on this link there are suggestions for things for morning sickness
