soblivion - thank you for the fleece blanket craft - i think that will be much easier to do than knitting - meaning it will take less time and with a 4 year old whos only in nursery, a mad jack russell, part time job, flat to clean and friends who might as well be my shadow - it will be much easier and i can by chance get one made in an evening so i think most people will be recieving blankets this year now! :rotfl: now must find some fleece.

she grinch, LOVE the recipe binder idea! :D You could make dividers to split recipes into type of recipe - meat, fish, dessert... Need to store your great idea in my head for when my DS's leave home (currently 4yo & 18m so have a while to go yet!!!) :rotfl:

mappygirl, using old clothes for the sachets, I just don't engage my brain sometimes (ok, most of the time :rotfl: ). I've got some old pj's that may do the job and some muslin squares never used for my DS2. Maybe I could dye them? Or sew buttons on the fabric? Or dye them and sew on buttons? Ohhh, have to dig them out and have a think...

soblivion - that is fabulous! You could sell them for a fortune in the shops. And what a gorgeous garden! Do you think you could make one on a smaller scale with a tennis ball?????

Hi melissa, thank you, I think a tennis ball would be too hairy to stick to?? Having never tried though I can't say for definate, I did wonder if one of those little balls that you use in ball ponds for children would work, you know those coloured hard plastic ones, I would think you'd have to scuff it a bit with sandpaper to make it less shiny and give the sealant a grip. I would worry about using a football though I know some have done it, I just worry that it would deflate, all the balls we've had have gone down :(
I have read about using a blow up beach ball though and putting a concrete or cement mix onto it (we'd need a man to tell us which to use) but not a really really cheap beach ball, it needs to be good plastic strenth to hold shape. When concrete/cement sets it should be a round ball shape. As I say I haven't tried any of these though. GL if you decide to try, I'd love to see results.

Thank you everyone for your kind words.

Sammy_kaye, glad I could help, you definately are one busy lady.

MrsM your cross stitching is absolutely beautiful, I have a thing for snowmen and he's a real cutie.

I lose at cheapest Christmas, not being very crafty (although I always make a box of biscuits for my partner's family).

But when my partner left for a year of research overseas I made him a recipe folder. I bought an A5 one to make it easier to transport and made sure it had all the things he liked and sections of things that were healthy, fast, makable from the dregs of an empty cupboard, special occasion and makable in bulk and freeze ahead. He loved it, still has it, and has been expanding it over the years.

I've got a couple of cushions to make for my mum - they're going to have cross-stiched motifs on and made from leftover bits of upholstery fabric, as well as a set of towels for her, again embroidered.

My sister is doodling some vines and leaves that I can sew on to jazz up some old clothes, and I might try and make them into bookmarks for friends (as most of my friends are avid readers :))

Beyond that, I'm thinking little jars of sweets would be perfect, and I'm going to have a go at making some, too.

    phew!

Ive been sat down today plannign christmas - making a nice list fo homemade gifts, gifts still to buy and hampers to make and so far have about 27 people to buy/make for and 6 pets!!!!

Ive done all this - a fair few people will now be getting blankets - nan, grandad, two young nieces, 3 cousins, sister and nephew whos getting a reading hamper and who has ADHD so its a comforter too which he can snuggle in whilst he reads.

Was also thinking of doing one with the furry material and a black fleece backing for my mum - shes tiger mad so i was thinking tiger faux fur material and black fleece would look effective if it could work.

Am hoping this year i will be able to cross stitch a few christmas decorative bits for christmas - i love that old style country looking christmas decoration so hoping to get some of that done this year - rag garlands and the such that i never got round to finishing last year. Ben has been watching christmas films all week and has been asking me if he can put snowflakes on teh window this year - think we will go all out this year because hes 4 and understands whats going on now - :T :T :T :T
