  • Ok i have a update on mine

I checked my account today when the website went back online and i have 2 fraudulent transactions on it and it seems its a popular scam and there is even a thread on here about it titled: O2 top up on bank statement, don't have a prepay phone!

BarclaysManager, will my £22 usage fee be wiped off seeing as these two fraudulent transactions made me go into the reserve in the first place?

    Thanks

Reserve Usage Fees will be refunded in the case of bank error or fraud.

Has anyone had any joy in having these funds refunded?

I've found myself in debt 2months worth of charges (22 x 8) and intend to fight this. On the letters it says "The personal reserve is intended for short-term use only. If you use it continuously for more than a few weeks, we may contact you or seek to remove Personal Reserve (or both)"...How about neither?! The least they could have done was call me (they have my current mobile number) to let me know what was happening. I use my Barclays account as my secondary account and had no idea i was in the red. All it would have taken was a quick call from Barclays and the issue would have been solved way back in April

These charges are not fair. True, I should have perhaps kept a closer eye on my account, but that doesnt change the ridiculous amounts being levied on consumers. I will never ever ever bank in Barclays again and I will be closing this account once this matters resolved. Shocking Bank and shocking customer services

Did you not receive a letter when you first went into your reserve informing you your account had gone into the reserve ????

Indeed. But I was travelling towards the end of April so didnt see my statements or any letters. I admit I should have been more aware, but these charges are extortionate, there worse than overdraft charges!!

Seems the Financial Ombudsman is willing to deal complaints about Barclays Personal Reserve charges.

I have spoken with the Ombudsman Service today and they are contacting Barclays on my behalf.

Barclays have refused me a refund also of £22 charged for using a Personal Reserve I was not aware I had (seems I must read my mail more carefully!)

top man! thanks for letting me know. Ill await their feedback and then complain to the Ombudsman (as we both know they'll come back with their usual spiel)
  • Hey guys, really sorry to drag this thread up again but I just need to check something out. I went into my reserve for 3 working days. The Barclays site is VERY misleading in that it implies that the charge applies for a period of 5 working days - basically that if you catch it in time, you don't pay anything.

But I just got a letter this morning saying they'll take out £22 14 days after my next statement.

I've dipped into the reserve for a matter of hours (sometimes a day) before where everything has come out at the wrong time and it hasn't triggered the reserve usage fee.

Will I get charged for this or not? :( Funny thing is, I bet part of that charge covers the administrative costs of sending out the letter letting me know I've been charged!!!

I think it is upto 5 days and not 5 days without charge. Although i don't understand your point about the letter it's like saying x bar charged me £9 for a cocktail and I bet part of that is for the straw.....don't understand your point.
