But not great for families...they like nice schools in the suburbs and gardens and driveways and .....gosh I can't think of any further positives for the suburbs now.....oh, not breathing in all the pollution.
My guess is that it's positive news for City Centre flats (although probably not enough to bail out idiot new-build buyers).
In London (which I know well) I guess it's positive for areas like Oval and Stockwell. Currently hellholes but central and on the tube/a cycle ride from the centre.0 -
And I will not crow...well....only a little bit.....but I used to drive 23 hours per wk (and I now live a good life as I would like to go to heaven....hell for me is stuck in a car , in a jam, M25 etc) but now I walk to work (or bus) heaven.
Only once every 2 wks do I need to commute.
I did a London run today (car); fire in the Blackwall tunnel, crash on Old St, mashed by vans and trucks.
The fuel prices have affected us a bit but not by a massive ammount though we are seeing the effects on some stock costs (delivery chgs etc)...but, hey, I just add them to the selling prices.0 -

I wasn't referring to company car drivers who have the car provided for them and are taxed through their tax code.
Then at the end of the tax year you get in touch with the tax office, ask them to send you the relevant form, complete it and put down the amount of business miles you did and the amount your employer gave you for it if anything. ( I use to have to use the same form to claim the tax relief for my professional membership before it was included in my tax code. )I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I live in the 'burbs and I hate them.
You know that Betjemin poem Slough?Come, bombs and blow to smithereens
Those air -conditioned, bright canteens,
Tinned fruit, tinned meat, tinned milk, tinned beans,
Tinned minds, tinned breath.
Live in the country or the city. Anything else is a hateful compromise IMO.
I went to a golf club at the weekend. Slacks and jackets and reserved parking spaces for the Club Captain and the Lady Captain. Tailored shorts and collared shirts. 4 gins and then drive home slowly.

I really don't understand why people take jobs in places they have trouble getting to. People complain about long commutes but they chose the job and they chose the house. It makes no sense!
Say you live in Kent and you get made redundant. Then you apply for jobs and the only job you can get is in West London but it's a fixed term contract for a year are you going to move house? Particularly when your OH has a job near to the house and your children are in local schools.
This is an extreme example but I've met and worked with people who have been made redundant 2 or 3 times and have had to make a similar decision.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

do you work for a one brand dealer mrB or just generic used cars
have you seen any change in buyer attitudes and mentality caused by the fuel situation, it would be interesting to get an anecdote from someone in the industry.
I've seriously considered a BMW M6 a couple of times, but I must be getting old, when the thing that's put me off most, is it's MPG.It's a health benefit ...0
