Petrol to rise to £2.30 a Litre ?!!

Not exactly a "House price" story, however something like this would shaft the world economies so much that Property prices would collapse !!

    Well, a bit over-dramatic.

Obviously it will affect every part of everybody's lives. Goods will become more expensive to transport; people will buy less as they can afford less.

People travelling to jobs will have to re-evaluate if they can afford to commute any more.

People's journey plans will be halted. e.g. holiday home owners in Cornwall will start to question the cost of the petrol there/back.

But we're British and therefore resilient.

It'll be all right. . . by 2020 when we've all got a bike, grow our own food and work within half a mile of where we live.

Some travel to work figures (back of a fag packet maths):
Distance to/from work 20 miles (10 miles each way)
    Car fuel economy 40mpg
    Petrol in March 2007 93p
    Petrol now 117p

Cost to drive to/from work per month:
    March 2007 = £40.52
    May 2008 = £51.00

At £2.30/litre it would be £100/month.

    [Assumptions: 230 working days/year]

GBQuid 11/month is probably do-able for most people. £60 would be more of a struggle. Also you're doing pretty well to average 40mpg sat in traffic!

Could be the best thing for our younger generation. Have to walk to and from school. Eat home grown veg. Find house prices start falling just as they enter their teens (ready for when they are 20 and the unemployment figures hopefully reverse)

I am soooo pleased I bought my 60 mpg vehicle in March.

At least this might stop chavs racing their cars about, if every burn up costs them £5.

I know many people who drive 50 miles (or more) each way to get to work
also many of the roads in the south east are very heavily congested and people spend hours in traffic jams which has a very significant effect on MPG.

If this prediction is true, I think the consequences could be catosrophic. Not only transport and distribution of goods would be affected. If oil prices increase - gas and electricity inrease by a similar amount also oil is an ingreedient of many manufactured goods etc.

Then there is the political instability in places such as the Middle East etc.

I truely hope that this prediction is just scaremongering.

I have already noticed the school car park is virtually empty of parents cars now on a sunny day and very much reduced from it used to be on a rainy one. I am still there because it is on my way home from work but, I would save a few miles if I went home a sightly quicker way and I am thinking it might be a good time to get the nippers to walk - now everyone else is starting to do so.

We are also turning some ground for winter veg as we speak. We have always grown our own summer fruit in a cage, so it isn't a big change for us, but it's a change in that direction all the same.

In terms of petrol for the car I could handle the hike...

Car does 38.9mpg and costs about 40 quid a month to get me to from work and shopping etc. So 80 quid wont be too much of a squeeze... its the knock on affect though that will hurt more :P.
