Help.
Both the hubbie and I need to lose weight, plus chest freezer is leaking so don`t have much room in the other freezer.
I have been cooking and freezing leftovers, but we also eat them as seconds too, not been good to waist line!
We have 2 children but 1 is really fussy so do tend to make 2 meals 3 nights a week. Not many things we all like.
My preteen does not do `wet food` sauces or like things mixed up, he likes to see what he is eating and will eat his food seperate aswell, ie peas 1st, then chips etc. Tonight we are having toad in the hole- it took him awhile to eat it as sausages touch yorkshire puddin!
Tomorrow the children are having HM pizza- in freezer and I thought we would have some sort of pasta in sauce, but how much pasta and how do I judge HM sauce?
Also any ideas on fussey child? Can not afford to give him meat and two veg every night, which is what he would have given half a chance!
On a budget too, arn`t we all.
Trying to eat from storecupboard and freezer and start Feb grocary challange on 21st when hubbie gets paid.
Thanks in advance0 -
I'm afraid my ideas on the fussy child are... eat it or don't  I couldn't be bothered making loads of different dinners everynight. However, I wouldn't set out to make meals every single night that one person particularly hated! I'm not that mean :rotfl:
A portion of pasta is 75g dried weight and I'd judge the sauce by eye.
Perhaps the love food hate waste site would help with portion control?0 -
Given up trying to give him anything with mince in, he was physically sick over the dinner table!0

With regard to pasta sauce... Assuming some form of bolognese, I use a 500g pack of mince and either a jar of sauce or freshly made and that goes four ways (so uses 125g of mince per portion). Agree with the poster above that 75g of dried pasta is a portion.
If you're on Weight Watchers, their system thinks 60g of pasta is a portion! Did that last year and found it tough! Good lesson though - I used to think 100g was a portion.0 -
I work on the basis that 100g of meat is a portion and 3oz of pasta (same as 75g).
As for the problem with seconds, I asked something similar the other day and the solution for us is that I only put half of the food into bowls to go onto the table and I reserve the portion for another day so that we're not temped to pick at it.
Fussy children - wellllll I have a similar view to those above, Perhaps where possible you can cook foods separately so that your son doesn't have to eat foods today and can avoid the "wet" element.
Ultimately, you need to have an eye to the adult that you are creating, he's going to look a bit odd in company when he won't eat food together and if he won't eat "wet" food.Piglet

ive merged this with the thread on pasta/rice portion sizes
there are a whole load of links in this previous post of mine for feeding kids healthier.
For the fussier eater you could try baked potatoes, on toast nights, or some veggie options? The vegetarian index may be useful
ZipA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I made 150g (dry weight) of rice last night for 2 people and it seemed to make loads! I served it with lentil loaf and some veg.
I only ate half of mine and had the rest for packed lunch today, OH ate all of his and then tried to finish off mine, but he is a human dustbin :rotfl:0
