  • I don't tend to eat pasta as a main ingredient, but rather as the carb element to a meal. If I'm counting calories I'll limit it to 25-30g dry weight, probably a little more if not being so strict. For a 4-portion lasagne, I use 6 sheets (around 115g).

For rice, I'd use 70g in a risotto for 2 portions. It doesn't sound much, but is ok with lots of veg. Don't tend to eat rice apart from that.

You will have to find out what works for you - I did it by trial and error, using electronic scales. Started from the usual 100g per person which seems to be the norm. This was too much, we always had leftovers. Now I know that 150g for the 2 of us is exactly right. DH eats more of it than I do, but the total is correct. 150g dry weight also works for us for couscous.
The one I have not figured out yet in weight is potatoes!

For Potatoes I go for about as much raw potato as would fit on your open hand so one large one, 1+1/2 mediums or 3-4 new/small potatoes, per person

  • We must be total piggies.

I have between 100-125gms pasta depending on what sauce it is with and husband usually had 150gms.

Rice with say chilli one cup for both of us.

Rice in risotto I use 100gms per person

I cooked 200g of rice for 2 of us the other day to have with Chick Pea and Spinach Curry and there was too much. So I cooked 150g of rice today to have with Chilli and OH complained there wasn't enough rice and that I never do enough!!! Guess who can't win??

we do 75g each of rice and pasta, and bulk it out with veg/meat/sauce. Potatoes we struggle with - does anyone have a recommended weight?

I cook 1/3 cup of rice per person-I keep an old 1/3 cup measure in my rice jar.

Pasta-I tend to guess how much but it usually works out ok.

not too sure about 100g but on the back of my long grain rice packet it says that 75g dry rice weighs 195g when cooked,so at a guess I'd say around
260g ? hope that may help a little

As rice is now going to be on the menu more often then before and not the 2mins in the MV variety how much rice is suitable for 2 adults and how much water, there are so many variations out there I was wondering what the consensus is here in the knowledge base?

    Thanks

Depends on appetite but I would say 1 mug to 2 mugs of boiling water. Cook in a pan with the lid on (absorption method). Alternatively, use the same proportions but put in microwave in a bowl without any lid for 11 minutes full power. Always works for me (secret is the boiling water). Once you have done it once you can adjust quantities to suit in the future.
